Hi all! I just picked up a new Ram today. It has the garage opener on the visor. I dont always park the truck in the garage. Is the opener live all the time? If I forgot to lock truck would someone be able to open the truck door hit the button and open garage door?
THANKS

Yes they would. That it's what the lock is for on the opener for the garage door. It keeps external remotes from opening the door

He’s referring to your wall unit. They typically have a lock out feature.

Turn that on in the evening and your remotes are rendered useless. Only issue I have is forgetting to turn the thing off in the morning when I goto work and have to get out of the truck, turn it off and then remote is functional again so I can close garage on my way to work.

I never knew the garage button in the truck was “live” all the time.
I always thought the button only worked with the ignition in ACC or RUN..for which you’d need the truck key fob. So if you leave it unlocked and someone tried to push the garage door button it wouldn’t work.
Am I wrong?

I haven't set my opener up yet or I'd test it. Just leave the truck off and the fob in the house, then see if the door opens from the truck. Let us know if it's active or not.

Yes you are incorrect. We just had to install a new controller board in one of our openers. We had to re-program the visor remote to work with the new controller board. We did this without the FOB anywhere near the truck. So yes, the visor remote is hot at all times.

So, it is just like having the normal garage remote in your vehicle...if someone can push the button, it will open...correct?

I checked my garage opener manual...never knew it had that lock out feature.

My garage door opener doesn't have lockout. It doesn't even have a wall unit. But it's probably from the 1980's LOL.

i never set mine up, I have a chamberlain and they have a tiny keychain fob garage door opener that I use so when the truck sits outside there are no active garage door openers in it.

It would have been faster to test this out yourself with the engine off and pushing the button!
