I just finally got around to finishing up replacing my blown 5.9 with a salvage 5.9

Truck started first shot, but its got a bad misfire, and it cant rev up much without getting really sporadic. It is throwing a P1391 code, yet i changed the crank and cam sensors. All new injectors, intake manifold gaksets, throttlebody gaskets, although i re used all my old sensors on the throttlebody from the old motor?

Also has what sounds like a really bad exhaust leak at the headers ( Pacesetter Shorties) w/ new felpro gaskets and all new hardware.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Comp test first then verify fuel sync and that the distributor is in on the right tooth

When i bought it i didnt really go by their test, so i did a compression test and everything came back good. I used what looks to be a cheap version of a new crank sensor, and read that these motors are pretty temperamental when it comes to sensors, Could it be a bad sensor? And my Cam Sensor? Trigger? is off my old 5.9 that blew, any chance maybe this is bad? Ill have to ask around to see who has the scan tool to set fuel sync. I neeed a snap-on correct ?

Terrible exhaust leaks all fixed** Header gasket was sealing right, used copper gasket spray and all surfaces fixed that, and the collectors werent sitting right to the Y pipe, lil heat and bending fixed that as well.

Still running **** poor and cant rev up much at all, still code P1391

Yes you need to use quality sensors. Try your old one if it was good. Double and triple check for pinched wiring. Its common to pinch it in the bell housing especially. To check fuel sync with a scanner it will need to be a DRBIII or snap on or OTC genisis and there could be more. If you do not have access to a scan tool I can explain how to set it manually to get it very close.

Update to those who care. Code P1391 still popping up, idles fine but cant rev at all. Pulled the crank sensor to find it being worn down and hitting the flywheel or the the ring ? I dont know yet. But also noticed my harmonic balancer may not be straight. thinking it might be going bad. could this cause my slight tick and cause the sensor to be getting macked by the ring?

It could cause the sensor to be ground down due to an unbalanced crank. It shouldn't cause a tick though.

Update. bent the crank sensor bracket a bit and all issues resolved. Just gotta replace my harmonic balancer in near future. !
