I'm curious how much dealer charged to diagnose and tear down your engine and then put it back together to have you tow it elsewhere?

Could you please share for our experience? Thank you

So a quick update, Had the Mechanic tow from the dealer. The dealer charged me $299,00 for the tear down. They put the parts into a box as I didn't need the labor charge to have it torn down again. I'm still waiting for the finial word as to either new cams / lifters or a complete rebuild. I've decided on the rebuild as opposed to a new or rebuilt, the shop sold me on that idea. They said the cam lifter redo should be in the 2-3K range a complete rebuild would be in the 6 K range. So I should know which way early next year / week. Thanks for all the great insight extremely helpful.

Shavings yes, possible. Getting past the oil filter not likely. But I would consider a new oil filter with MSD.

You need to fill in some gaps. Can you be without this truck for awhile? or need it asap? What mechanical ability do you have? I would find an engine from a totaled truck myself. $2000 should get you a low mileage engine. Check craigslist, lots parts there. And I would get it out of the Dealer's shop and into a private one. But you have X $ already there. With the price they quoted you for a replacement motor I would seriously think about parting it out or the used motor. Use your pencil, it may be time to cut your losses.
