Just don't go too dark. I did that on my 3rd gen and the first trip I watched 100 people behind me hit their brakes in surprise and almost got hit 3 times.

Thankfully, some paint thinner took them off and put lighter coats.. but still had an issue.. so I just said no more tinted tails..

thats pretty much where im at, i wont run tinted tails unless they are LED and even then i run the LED bar under the tailgate as an added form of protection

well then you are the only one i have seen that has not had an issue with not clearing the tails, if there is no protection on the lens they will fade, thats what the clear coat is for along with making it where you can sand them perfectly smooth with absolutely no orange peel of any kind and have a deep black finish to them, VHT alone will have orange peel and not be as glossy as a cleared set of lights, also using VHT alone, the VHT finish can be damaged with using a heavy detergent like a strong degreaser, when you use a good clear coat on them they are as strong as your paint on your truck.

you can see in your un-edited pix that yours arent as shiny as they could be with a good coat of clear on them

also since the only prep you did was wiping them down i Strongly suggest you do not sand yours
Yea I won't be sanding them. I'm actually trading some parts for OEM sport black 13+ led tails tomorrow or tuesday. So I won't even have these on much longer.

I can't remember if I did 2, 3 or 4 coats on mine. But they shine and are just as bright as they were before I tinted them. I do have a super bright Opt7 LED tailgate bar that helps, but even without it my taillights and brakes are still super bright. Most people wouldn't even be able to tell they arnt oem. You can still see the red in them and still see through them, but they are tinted enough to give off that smoked look.

I've smoked quite a few taillights in my day, and these have come out looking the best out of all of them.

Here is my old 94 Acura Integra GSR that i smoked the tails with VHT. It had a 99 type r swap, type r trans, Comptech Supercharger, I loved this car so much. The mix of Vtec and the Comptech Supercharger was just perfect. Sounded insane and was wicked fast.

they were still bright, but i dont like the dimming down of my brightness that i have lol, smoked with my LEDs they were as bright in my regular tails without tint and Halogens, for most it would be fine but im too picky for it lol
