I am not as well versed in engine sounds but it didn't sound as bad as some piston slap videos on YT. Hopefully it's just lifters not pumping up. Mine occasionally makes a loud clacking noise on startup but it goes away within 5 seconds. Unnerving but all of the oil had drained to the pan over the weekend.

I have a similar sound. Replaced the passenger side manifold and thought it went away, but it didnt. Now sounds like it's coming from the driver side. Will dig in to that manifold this weekend. Does yours, or any body else's, increase with throttle? Mine will speed up when I push on the gas pedal, but watching boostedmotorsports YT video when he replaced his manifolds did that too. I have a 13 that I bought in September with 39k miles. Just rolled over 50k yesterday.

With all that I've learned on this forum I think you're good as long as it goes away after warm up….
Ya - mine sometimes makes a similar sound on start-up, but after she idles down it pretty much quiets right down and after warm-up sounds very smooth. I wouldn't worry too much unless it sounds rough after about 5mins.

My 08 2500 5.7 has always had this noise for 300,000 km but not loud enough to bother me. Am going from 20 to 30 oil this year to see what happens, if anything. Not concerned by it.

To OP and anyone else here with cam/lifter problems, what oil were you running?

Also, I read on the z forum (don't know how accurate it is) that these lifters have a 0.01% failure rate which multiplied by 16 lifter per truck means around 1 in 6250 trucks will have an issue with the lifters. That seems like more than what some people make it out to be.

Even if those figures are anywhere close to correct, it still behooves Hemi owners to take precautions knowing what we know...we all have health, life, homeowners (or renters) and auto insurance, don't we?

That is my point. I agree with you.

I was using that number as a counterpoint to the argument that people make saying it only seems like a lot because people only post when there are problems and that there are so many trucks out there that the few we hear about means it isn't actually that big of an issue.
