Here's How Dodge Will Replace the Mighty Roar of Its Hemi V-8 Engine in Electric Muscle Cars

Story by Karina Bobadilla

Dodge is more than ready to take the thrill of driving to a whole new level with the Dodge Charger EV, its first electric muscle car. As the automotive industry leans towards electrification, the American manufacturer aims to preserve the essence of its iconic Hemi V-8 engines through an innovative sound synthesis system.

The arrival of electric muscle cars is now a reality, and the proof was Dodge's latest reveal at the Detroit Auto Show, where the Dodge Charger EV was unveiled. This car promises thrills just as intense as the brand's most classic models, but with a fundamental difference: zero emissions and completely eco-friendly.

Famous for its powerful and emblematic Hemi V-8 engine, Dodge has ventured into the electric era, but without sacrificing the essence of its sonic legacy. Yes, you read that right, especially for the most demanding and nostalgic drivers of the classics, so the American manufacturer didn't overlook this crucial detail in its new models.

Thus, Dodge's challenge is to recreate that iconic roar of the Hemi V-8 with a trick up its sleeve: the Fratzonic exhaust system, which aims to emulate it masterfully, as it would emit a roar of 126 decibels, almost equal to its legendary heart and even above the SRT Hellcat. This is achieved through an amplifier and a tuning chamber installed at the rear of the car, which detects an increase in the propulsion speed of the electric motors, thanks to its sensors.

And the sound had to match the power, as this car will have the ability to enhance its performance through upgrade kits called "eStage". Dodge will allow owners to purchase these kits, download the corresponding software, and unlock more power. Thus, the basic Charger 340 can reach 495 or even 535 horsepower, while the Charger 440, which starts with 590 horsepower, can boost its power to 630 or 670 horsepower.

I really did not think the electric car crowd would care a damn if it sounded like anything.
Maybe this is all for the bike crowd??
There is one that drives past me up the street, all you hear is the tire noise on the crappy pavement.
For running up to walmart , I can see the point.
A couple ladies I know have bought Honda CRV hybrid (likely on recalls now), they love them. But I like the Old one we have, Seats could be better, after driving Ram. But don't plan on any new ones.
Interesting about 340, 440, great motors, but not hemi's, not that most buyers would know /care.
But maybe I am out to lunch on this.

LOL

as it would emit a roar of 126 decibels, almost equal to its legendary heart and even above the SRT Hellcat.

If anyone ever tries to show off by "revving" their electric car, they are getting a high five to the face.

You choose to be a vegetarian, you don't get meat substitutes. Eat your kale and black beans and be happy.

You choose to drive an electric car, you don't get engine noises. Take your boring driving experience and be happy.
