I have a 2004 hemi 5.7. When I step on the accelerator and it shifts into passing gear the truck begins to hesitate and spits &. sputters. I'm wondering what is causing this

Bad gas maybe? But also the passing gear is the weak link in these transmissions. Use it too much and she'll take a *******. It should be used sparingly if at all.

Yes it has original tranny. It Does the same thing if i punch it from a dead stop. Im thinking its an engine issue or a problem with the catalytic converters

Typical stuff, like dirty TB, plugs, cats could be a problem but you usually throw DTC if anything goes bad with them.
