First post on this forum.

Ok well here it goes. I've got a Stock 2014 4X4 Megacab with 79000 miles. The check engine light came on and my neighbor checked the codes and showed

(STORED)
P0046 turbocharger boost control circuit performance,
P0217 coolant temp too high,
P203F Reductant level too low,
P242F Diesel Particulate filter restriction-ash accumulation,
P2463 Diesel particulate filter-soot accumulation,
P1451 Diesel Particulate Filter System performance,

(ACTIVE)
U010C Lost communication with turbocharger control module,
P00AF Turbocharger boost control module performance
P003A Turbocharger/Supercharger boost control Module Position Exceeded Learning Limit

So I took it into the Stealer (Dealer) they informed me since I had 79,000 miles I was required to get the EGR SERVICE done for a whopping $900!!! That it's a mandatory service and will void the warranty if not completed.

Next I get a call that the fan clutch is out causing the engine to run hot therefore the regeneration won't kick in causing ash and soot to build up in the system, creating a problem with the turbocharger. And the turbocharger control module is stuck and will need to be replaced under warranty.

I was also told the fan clutch needs to be replaced before the turbo control module because that is what caused the issue in the first place.

Needless to say I will be out over $1600 DOLLARS!!

AM I GETTING SCAMMED?????

If the work for the EGR is what the guy doing in the video below, I can see why a dealership charge 900$.

Fan clutch, that you can do yourself and save a bunch.

The only thing that confuses me about their diagnosis is the "lost communication with turbo control module" (U010C). How long has the check engine light been on? The first code that I would focus on is U010C because that will cause all the turbo codes that are coming up. I would check all of the wiring because that is, most likely, the culprit for all the turbo related codes. They are correct, because of the coolant temp code (P0217), the truck will disable regeneration.

It is very hard to properly diagnose your truck without physically looking at it. Looking at the codes, I am assuming that your check engine light has been on for a prolonged period of time.

I would not hold your breath waiting for the OP to come back. He is another one of those "pump and dump" members that only join because they are flailing in a problem.

Always amazed by these posts. Just go to a diesel mechanic and get it looked at. Yeah it’ll cost a few buck but then you have a better idea. We ALL know the dealer will screw ya.

Avoid this problem by buying a pre 2007 Diesel, a 2001/2002 even better. You can use a low ash oil, pretty sure they all are at this point, but that only gets you so much. First they went to high pressures which doubled the cost and frequency of repairs, sometimes tripled the cost such a pumps, now they got these eco features that require more expensive maintenance. Why do you think 2002 diesels like doubled in value even though they are getting older, lol? Japan.
