Hid light problems continue

Ill give it a shot tomorrow, really hope I can find one of my factory bulbs somewhere..

So I could have power at the plug with the truck off, but when running I could have no power if its due to the TIPM?

If the computer is screwing with ya, then yeah. That's how it should be. Otherwise, well start testing your harness until we narrow down your problem.

And don't stress about the bulb. That's more for curiosity. If ya can't find it your multimeter will do the same thing.

The low beam voltage dropped to 3.5v when I switched to high beams, is that normal?

It shouldn't be that high. Should be +/- .5 V from 12V. So I'm not sure whats going on there. Did you try it with the headlight plugged in?

No I didn't, ill do that first thing tomorrow.

I'm hoping this rules out the TIPM issue since we know there is power at the plug..

What else should I try checking or testing for tomorrow? Any idea why the voltage is that high?

I'm not positive, but that could be the numbers that were out of range last year when I had my ballast replaced. No idea if its related or not..

Start with the headlight plugged in. And we'll go from there. Hopefully it'll turn out to be something simple.

And don't worry about the Voltage. For not being plugged into anything and with the alternator churning its really not that high. Since you're basically just reading battery volts.

Are you referring to the 3.5v on the lows that it drops down to that you said is too high when the high beams are on?

Either I'm not getting a reading due to insulation around the plug wires in the plug, or there is no reading at all.


You can see the insulation around the wire


I don't think there is any on this plug, I don't think I can get my prob far enough in there to read anything.


Anywhere else I can test?

were you ever able to find out if the problem was with the truck, or the hids?

They originally thought it was a TIPM issue with the truck until I ran a test to see if I have power at the factory headlight plug, since I do that rules out the TIPM issue. So it must me within the hid system.

They are sending me a new relay controller. They have already sent me a whole new hid wire harness with relay but I'm assuming the relay that came with the harness is either bad or reconditioned? Will find out shortly

Beyond annoying! Thanks hopefully this new relay will solve the problem, should have it in a few days. Ill update when I get it

Ok, this is where I'm at now. The guys at retro solutions I've been talking to this entire time via email are still saying it might be the TIPM that is tripped.

They are telling me that the superchips tuner will read clear and reset the TIPM.

How do I do this? I don't see anything on this tuner about resetting the TIPM. I only see how to read and clear the diagnostic trouble codes..

Does anybody know anything about this?
