About 6 months ago I purchased the Spyder CCFL Halo projector headlights. They look great, and were a great addition to the truck. I was very disappointed when I turned on my low beams at night. They SUCK! I honestly cant drive with my low beams, they have been adjusted down but they are not bright. I know it doesnt help that the headlights are so far from the ground because of the lift, but they are less bright than stock. I drive everywhere with my high beams on, lol. But they are still not too bright. I wanna step it up and get HIDs. I know I cant put them in my projectors, but im pretty sure I can run them on my high beams. Could I do this? Will I burn the plastic on the headlight housing? How involved is the install process? Thanks! Heres a picture of my halos with just the running lights on:

if you can replace the bulb behind the projector... I suggest up grading it to the Sylvania zxe bulbs... I run them in my factory headlights and I absolutely love them. they are the closest to bright white you can get without having an HID and ballast. hey cost $60 and they function very well. and since they don't produce the same heat as the HIDs I believe they are safe to run in those headlights.

Thanks for the info. Could I just run the ZXE bulbs in place of my high beams?

yes, you can do both if you wanted to plus if you only change one bulb it'll save you like 60, if you were to buy a good brand HID. with that savings you can buy 2 sets of the zxe bulbs (high and low). find out the model number for the bulbs that came with the headlights because they may not have used your factory bulbs. then see if they have it for that style bulb. there are only 2 types of bulbs that I know of that they haven't produced yet for the zxe's.

Get rid of the Spyder headlights like they were cursed. You will have problems aiming them when you install the HiD's. How do I know this?? Well I have a pair of the spyders myself and to tell the truth they were the biggest mistake I could ever have made. Yes they look good, but aiming them is a massive pain in the rear. Add Hid's to them and let the frustration begin.

I am currently working on a project that includes these parts:

TYC 07-08 Ram Headlights

HID Bulbs

Mopar Specific HID Relay Harness

Morimoto Mini H1 Projectors

Jeremy at retro shops is assisting me with a couple things, but I will be dechroming the headlights and painting them black to match my truck. I will install the projectors with halo's on them and I am adding a this to the lights:

2006 2007 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 2500 3500 ORACLE SMD/LED Headlight Halo Kit- Custom Lighting from Advanced Automotive Concepts

With the above from AAC style I will be using white around the projectors and yellow around the blinkers and this:

ORACLE "Concept" LED Strips- 12" Pair

With the dual element will be going under the lights inside the housing in amber to be used as blinkers and running lights.

I normally would have been all for the Spyders except for their poor construction, extreme difficulty in aiming them, and the modifications needed to run HiD's in them.
If you go the HiD route be prepared to get some small files and start work on the light housing first to open where the bulb goes into it up. Took me 4 hours to get it right. Next you will have to make a spacer to push the HiD bulb back no less than 1/4 inch or the beam will not be right at all.
Take my advice and if you want HiD's look elsewhere. Maybe Jeremy at Retroshop can hook you up with something that will suit you.

I have a set of similar Spyder lights on my truck. I love the way they look but like you said the light output is absolute junk. I'm pulling mine out this week and returning them. From what I've researched HIDs will not fit in those projectors without modification and even if you get them to fit they will not project the light correctly. As much as I like the looks of my Spyders I'm going to go back to the stock lights with an upgraded bulb.

As far as putting HIDs in the high beam spot I don't think that's the best idea. Maybe Jeremy will chime in here but it's my understanding that putting HIDs into a reflector head is not a good idea.

The glare would be incredible, not too mention that you again will not be able to aim them at all. Jeremey from Retro Shops is assisting me wit my project and I do recommend getting in touch with him if you really want something different than the stock headlights. I will be getting off the boat this Thursday and will start a post on my headlight project as soon as I have all the parts in my hand.

I just wouldn't mess with the spyder stuff. Or recon, or any of those aftermarket ones......

There are SO many options out there to do this in a manner that gives you some AWESOME light output. The 02-05s have a lot of room in them. Even with Mini projectors, they would flat out blow away the spyders. Feeling adventurous? FX-R them, LS460 them things. Yeah......its on.
