Has anyone done this conversion and have thoughts on wattage and look? The system doesn't seem difficult to install I'm worried about how they will look in a non projection housing. Also will a 55w melt the housing?

I'm looking into the retro shop hid kid $215:Sumo::Sumo:

I ran HID's in my quad headlights for 4-5 months before getting my projector set built. If you aim them correctly the quad headlights actually have a decent cut off and shouldn't blind oncoming drivers. The fogs are much worse for blinding oncoming traffic.

I'd definitely recommend running the 35W kit in quad headlights as they will have less glare. The 55W kit won't do anymore for you in that application.

I intstalled HID's in my stock quad setup.... love em .... of course I'm now "that guy"
I put led bulbs in the fogs since this pic..... I'm still on the fence about dealing with the hid install again

They are Spyder HID's ... I ordered non HID's for more plug and play install, but somehow was shipped these lol. I'm at the same level as a retarded monkey mechanical wise, and knew absolutely less than nothing about how to Install these, never even heard of resistors or ballasts . Was trying, frustrating, words were spoken, tools thrown, calls made, instructions were a joke. .... finally got ahold of a wiring diagram , and was pretty simple to actually do... this is the diagram I used

HIDs in the RAM reflectors isn't bad at all. I ran 55w with 5500K bulbs.

You'll see a little bit of glare, but it's minimal for a drop in kit. Most of the glare in the pic is the light reflecting off the garage and back to the grill and back to the garage.

The 55w is bright. If I were to do it again, I'd go with 35w. 35w is plenty bright.

I would check with local law enforcement, in my area HIDs in reflector housings are considered a violation... You can get eBay projector headlights for 150-200$

maybe just get 4300k and say, officer ... the headlights on my vehicle are stock.

I use canbus adapters to eliminate any issues. I have over 80,000 miles on two 4th gen Rams with error free HID lighting

1) find me one vehicle that has hid's with reflector housings standard out of the factory

2) I cant stand any person who puts rediculously bright hid bulbs into a standard reflective housing. Not only does it look rediculous, its potentially dangerous to on coming traffic......and depending on the application, in some situations, it can be extremeley dangerous to on coming traffic.

end rant

1) Nissan Rouge, factory reflector housing, Acura TL, many Mercedes models had them for years. There are tons out there. One of the bulb types for HID reflectors is D2R. I sell tons of these.

2) not all HIDs in halogen reflectors act the same. In fact, most of the really annoying ones are HIDs put into old headlights with severely faded and oxidized headlamps that diffuse the light.

The output in our RAMs with quality HID bulbs is actually not bad. One of the few halogen reflectors that don't get people flashed all the time.
