Bought a new 2022 Laramie 4x4 last week 5.7 etorque. The truck is very nice, and it even has very nice towing manners with my little 3500lb camper behind it. But setting the cruise control at 70 yielded about 10mpg, and then when turning on a country road and setting the cruise at about 60mph that dropped to around 8mpg. My previous truck that I pulled this camper with was a 2019 F150 Platinum with the 3.5EB. I consistently got about 13-14mpg towing under the same conditions. Unloaded, the F150 got about 17mpg and the RAM is getting about 14mpg.

This sound about right to you guys? Does it get much better as you get miles on the truck? My test tow was done with under 100 total miles on the truck.
Just what is this E-torque. Sounds like artifical HP.?

My 2019 Lonestar non etorque Hemi 4x4 with 3.21 gears just got 5-10mpg coming back from TN on I-30 across Texas pulling 7x14 VNose tandem axle trailer which was empty.. winds were killing mpg..averaging 220 miles to a tank of gas..
I notice the ac unit on top. Are you using that cargo trailer as a camper??

Bought a 2021 Longhorn Limited 5.7L eTourque 3.21rear in December 2021. I live in the northeast. I do not tow. I barely pulled 13 mpg until the weather warmed up in the spring. This concerned me quite a bit. I'm sure it was due to break-in, winter blend fuel and weather (temperature). When spring and the warmer weather arrived, the truck had about 2500 mi (... I don't drive a lot) on the truck and mileage improved. By the time summer rolled around I was pulling 17.5-18 mixed driving, and 22-24 STRCTLY highway driving. So giving it some time, the fuel efficiency will likely improve. Not sure where you live, but over time, you will likely see improvement. One last note, I tend to keep it under 70 on the highway... for fuel efficiency reasons. Good luck with the new truck.

The owners manual on my new 3500 HEMI says as mentioned above to not tow for the first 500 miles, and then for the first 500 miles of actually towing to not exceed 50 mph.

Tires? Check your trailer and truck tire pressure? I'll bump the truck to up 50-55 psi. How's the weight distribution? I wonder if your new truck sits higher or lower than your old one. If the truck/trailer are not balanced right, it could throw it off. I don't go 70. Around 63 MPH is the sweet spot with tow/haul mode on. Usually takes the truck 20 minutes of towing to get dialed in by the computer. Mine does around 11 on relatively flat roads. Some hills it drops to 3 or 4. lol. I'd say it's not as efficient as my old Expediation, but it certainly tows better.

OP must have a serious case of "Hemi Foot". My 2015 2500 with 6.4, six speed 66RFE, and 4.10 gears did that good on fuel. I pulled a gooseneck toy hauler at over 23K lbs combined and hovered in the 7.5-8.5 realm at 65 mph. Oh, and the MPG never changed or improved over the 43K miles I owned it. My 2005 Cummins did gain a solid, consistent 1 mpg after 10K miles. My 2019 Cummins has gained zero though 54K miles.

Not sure how I could have gone any easier. My last trip that I just got back from was a 500 miles tow. All interstate highway, set the cruise at 65mph and yield 10 mpg. 3500 lb trailer and a 220 lb motorcycle in the bed.

Thinking back, I had a 7x14 tandem axle box trailer with extra height that I used for track days, and general hauling. I pulled it with multiple trucks, so it might be a better comparison.

Hy Trucks:
2003 F150(company truck)5.4 @10mpg
2004 Chevy 2500 8.1 8-9mpg
2005 Dodge 2500 Cummins 11-13mpg
2015 Ram 6.4 10-11mpg

My buddy's Chevy 5.3 9mpg

I sold the trailer to a friend who pulled it with a 1500 Hemi from AZ to MN loaded pretty heavy, then MN to MI empty. I will ask him if he recalls his mpg.

I guess perhaps my RAM isn't exceptionally bad, but maybe my previous truck was exceptionally good. This is the same trailer behind my 2019 F150 Platinum with Max tow package. It did have higher gearing, and the 3.5 Ecoboost V-6. But 13-14 was the norm while towing, and I really didn't feel the need to slow it down to 65 on the highway to save fuel. I would just happily tow along at the speed limit.

I often get 20 on the road with mine and I mean 70-75 mph. dont get so much in town but I dont expect to with the 3.92 gears and 5.0 first gear. stop and go will use up the fuel. towing our 6000# 28' travel trailer I usually get 8.5-10 depending on the terrain and whether I have a head wind or not. I tow at 68-69 and use tow/haul and set cruise. not Prius-worthy but good enough for what it is.

I thought I would write an update at 4K miles on my new RAM.
The mileage improved. I changed the oil at 2200 miles with Mobile 1 then at 2500 miles I hooked up my camper and hit the road. Somewhere around 3K miles it started getting noticeably better mileage. On my tow out of town I was averaging about 10.1, on my way home I was averaging 11.2. Not much, but better than a sharp stick in the eye!

Looks like a nice truck. What made you go with the ram?

My Ford dealer was out of trucks and I needed to buy a new one, so I went next door to the RAM dealer. Also, my son has a 2019 Ram Classic and has about 70K trouble free miles on it.

I hear ya. I’ve been very happy with my rams I’ve had 1-1500 and 2- 2500s all with hemis. The 1500 got great mileage towing and empty had 3.21 gears. My 6.4s get decent mileage for what they are. I also really liked my f150 with the 5.0. Never towed much with it but empty it got great mileage.
