Bought a new 2022 Laramie 4x4 last week 5.7 etorque. The truck is very nice, and it even has very nice towing manners with my little 3500lb camper behind it. But setting the cruise control at 70 yielded about 10mpg, and then when turning on a country road and setting the cruise at about 60mph that dropped to around 8mpg. My previous truck that I pulled this camper with was a 2019 F150 Platinum with the 3.5EB. I consistently got about 13-14mpg towing under the same conditions. Unloaded, the F150 got about 17mpg and the RAM is getting about 14mpg.

This sound about right to you guys? Does it get much better as you get miles on the truck? My test tow was done with under 100 total miles on the truck.

considering the owners manual doesn't recommend towing for the first 500 miles, the truck is still "breaking in"
As for towing it comes down to wind load more than anything that effects fuel economy. The EB probably gets slightly better fuel economy with your trailer as the engine produces more torque at a lower rpm. If the trailer was heavier the Hemi probably squeak out better mpg while towing.
If mpg while towing was your big concern, it's the spark plugs in the engine that's the problem (as in the engine has them).

you will get better after you get some miles on the truck. I get 8.5-10 pulling my 6000# travel trailer at 69-70 unless I am bucking a headwind. 65 mph will get me around 9 pretty much all the time towing. I often get over 20 at 75-80 when not towing

If those numbers are evic readings then your actual mileage is worse than you see.
Yeah, I did my first fill up, the dash said 14.7 mpg average, and my hand calculation showed about 13.5.

If I end up in the 12 range after break-in I will be a happy camper. As it is today with about 270 miles on it, I get about 20-22 on the instant (lying) meter with the cruise set at 70.

Most of the time...lol. I had to respond though cause I just filled up and my EVIC read 11.9 and hand calculated was 12.2...lol. I'd say 90% of the time it is lower than the readout but there has been a handful of times where it was actually higher than my dash read.

Do you have the same axle gear ratio? Same transmission gear sets?

If U have 3:92 rear, get slightly lower mpg than 3:21 rear. But towing early, well, hmmmm (see post #2, CRASH right on). Give it time, will break in and be a lil better. I get 10-13 mpg towing a 2150 lb stock trailer with 4,000 lbs of hay inside, highway speeds up to 65 mph. (Non E-torque in my early bid 2019). (Also, I do not have a WDH, as that is just local towing to get hay).

I think you will do a little better after break in. Also not sure where you live but up north here we have to run the "winter blend". I easily lose 2mpg during the winter months.

I switched from a 2017 Ford with the 3.5L EB, and that sounds about right.

For a comparison. 2019 Laramie hemi 3.92 non e

61 MPH towing our 31 foot 6700 lb trailer. Flat terrain no wind. 11-12 MPG. Any faster and MPG drops off drastically.
70 MPH cruise on, partly hilly interstate, in SC 22 MPG. Driver and half tank of gas. No cargo.
Around town. 13-18. Depending on how much I womp it up;)

YMMV

My 2019 Lonestar non etorque Hemi 4x4 with 3.21 gears just got 5-10mpg coming back from TN on I-30 across Texas pulling 7x14 VNose tandem axle trailer which was empty.. winds were killing mpg..averaging 220 miles to a tank of gas..

I must admit I do not understand some of the threads concerning mpg. Unless your truck is being used constantly for work and that means big money out of your pocket every month why are you worrying. Its a truck towing a TT. A nice truck and TT I might add which makes me believe you have the means.

I just traded my Ram for a 6.6 Chevy 2500 gasser and I haul a 2500lb TC. I have gone about 1600 miles in the new truck and have not looked a the MPG once.

For me personally, it’s about efficiencies and frugality. Sure I have the means, doesn’t mean I want to spend unnecessarily.

With that being said, a few mpg is fine for me considering the truck is paid, newer trucks are absurdly overpriced and the ram is the truck I always wanted. Only thing I’d trade it for is the new 3500 SA night edition ::drool::

OP - I avg 11mpg hauling a 4800lb TT.
Like everyone said, depending on wind hills etc. I’ve seen as low as 8.

2015 5.7 4x4 Crew Cab 3.92 rear and RT stock sized tires.

My tires made the biggest difference going from the stock wrangler SRA garbage to hybrid lt tires. That sucked 3mpg immediately, but worth it.

I got tons of punctures all the time on highway roads with the stock wranglers. Since changing, not one in over 90k.

Congrats and best of luck with your new ram!

Highway with the cylinder de activation averaging 75 I got 19mpg, towing between 12-13. Did the Ford youre citing have the 5.0 or one of the EcoBoost motors?

Best advice I can offer is, "It is what it is". eTorque gets you nothing for MPG. I have a 2021 eTorque Rebel and have never towed with it. My average is 14.5 mpg over the last year. Dealer can't get anywhere near the window sticker on a MPG test either.

Oh, and your fuel economy will NOT improve after the first X,*** miles. Show me the data. I have a fuel economy spreadsheet for every truck I've ever bought, including this one. I could say that maybe the first 2 or 3 tanks are lower than the rest, but the truck does not magically gain 5 MPG after 10,000 miles of "break in".

My winter mpg, are around d 13.6 average. Highest I've gone in the summer was 14.9 average not towing a damn thing other than my fat ass. Big truck, big engine.. I didn't expect to get 20 out of it.
