Long story short - the guy was shady. Took way too long to get intakes - too many "issues". He screwed a lot of guys out of $$ and who knows where he is now.

Bottom line - I liked the BFI - but the vararam outperforms it. At least it did on my truck.

That is why I have not started making these myself yet. I think the best way to do it is to make it using PVC and have a form molded. I'm sure you can buy the pvc at any hardware store. Might not look pretty, but it will work.

If you can weld, then the aluminum would be nice. Aluminum isnt cheap though unless you have some laying around.

Every engine will benefit from a better flowing intake system that is drawing in cooler air. A bigger engine is going to show bigger gains, but it is a worthwhile mod reguardless of engine size.

Cool, keep us posted.

ps: a cold air intake isn't going to give you noticeable power, however cai with exhuast and a tuner will.

Try to stick with plastic because it will dissipate the heat faster. And try to put the filter directly behind the passenger side headlight as this is where the coolest underhood temps will be.

I always thought it was the opposite that aluminum dissipate heat faster then plastic

Yeah it's more that the aluminum heats up faster, the pvc acts as more of a heat shield, keeping the air from getting too hot. Also, take a look at my intake, I think it's a pretty good design, all off the shelf parts too.

Ive been thinking about making one but I have a few questions for those that have.
What size pipe did you use?
How did you connect it to the throttle body?
What size is the throttle body inlet?
What did you do with the sensor that plugs into the pipe, MAF?
What did you do with oil hose that connected to the stock air box?

To answer the questions about my intake (the orange one) pictured above:

It's a 3 inch pipe of electrical conduit, scedule 40 pvc. You use a 3" to 3" fernco to connect the pipe to the throttle body. The other end of the pipe is 4" OD, so get a 4" clamp on cone filter. The air intake sensor, you can just drill a hole .71" and plug it in. Put a little silicon around it to be sure its secure. The "oil hose" you can buy a universal crank case filter and just plug that into the tube coming off the oil fill cap. All told I think I spent about 70 bucks, mostly bc the filter I bought was $55. It's pretty simple to do, I would reccommend it for sure.

Looks like this may be a few months old now but here is a look at my home grown CAI. I built to different ones, one with out the Hemi hat and the one I run now with the Hemi hat install. I didnt like the look of the engine without the Hemi hat and can't tell any real difference between the too designs other than than the looks. I made it out of 3" PVC and a 90* street elbow, I glue the 2 pieces together with with PVC Cement and then sanded the joint smooth and painted. Easy and cheap to make.
