I'm not sure if this post belongs under interior or not but since its about the mounting I'm starting here. I wanted to mount my bullydog tuner but didn't want to drill holes in my truck and couldn't see paying 100 bucks for the pillar pod and bully dog mount...so I did this. I started with 2 pieces of 90 degree steel corner brackets I found in the garage from a shed install..i brazed them together to make them wider and then trimmed the side showing for a better more streamline look. This slides into the truck above the E-brake . I then got a bracket for kitchen cabinets and notched it around the hdmi port on the bullydog and used a heavy duty 3m scotch lock on it.I mount the bullydog to the plate I made and run the HDMI cable thru the storage pocket that I never use..yes I had to make a hole in the rear of it but when I sell the truck or remove the bullydog a piece of gorilla tape will fix it.. With this mounted on the cabinet bracket it drops down flat out of the way..it tilts up for easy access. I don't need to be looking at it all the time since my evic has all the info I need anyway.....heres the making of the bracket...and below the unit itself mounted to it

Looks good, are going to pull over to do on the fly tuning or swerve all over the road looking down to do it?

Why would anyone tune while driving....do you have one of these? heck I know a lot of guys that program the tune and then remove the unit once the ecm is programed. Not to mention you CAN"T change a tune while driving with a bullydog since you have to cycle the key...please if you don't haver one and don't know how they work do some reading first..........................plus the bracket tilts up for easy viewing. But once a tune is in it all you doing is looking at the same gauges I have on the evic display

P.S...had a tuner in my last truck on a dash mounted pod...edge tuner in a ford..in 5 years I never had to fool with it on the fly..once or twice I changed over to the towing tune but you always install the tune while stopped...you can't reprogram a ecm while driving...and as far as the display...again it showed the same as the gauges in the dash. with both the billydog on the edge I did the 0-60 and 1/4 mile...you set them from a stop...you cant do much while driving except change the display

Cool looking bracket. I like the fitment too. But personally wouldn't have mounted it down there. I had one in my last truck and it was great for gauge readout and I can't imagine putting it that low, I would be taking my eye off the road for too long. Plus its not as quick of a glance either. But hey to each their own if you like it great :)

No pun intended... I don't have a Bullydog, but I had the preconceived notion that it was an "on the fly" tuner. It was merely a question, but I should have worded it differently I guess. I am impressed with your mounting bracket, I would've never thought to use a hinge to mount it. The only reason I asked about swerving is that I had to suddenly avoid a guy coming into my lane the other day and when I got up to him he was playing with his tuner in the A pillar.

I'm a 53 year old Master auto mechanic.. been racing since the eighties.. tuners really don't interest me enough where I have to stare at them I put the tune in it does its job if I don't like it I'll put in another tune when I get home.. tuners when you first get them are amazing and you stare at them and you push buttons on them but after a couple weeks you forget you even have them in the car as long as they do their job it's out of sight out of mind.... I don't understand why guys are fascinating looking at the rpm or voltage when it shows on the dash.. not to mention I like the fact that it can't be seen so the guy walking through the parking lot doesn't see it on the pillar and decide to do a smash and grab..... even though it won't work in another vehicle. Personally I don't see the big wow factor in staring at your tuner ... this is just me but I think the only gauge anybody needs to look at on a pillar is a boost gauge other than that keep your eyes on the road because I might be the guy in front of you and I don't need anybody hitting me

And unrelated to location...I put the tuner in the other day and a day later..just running around a bit in the city..have already got a .4 gain in gas mileage. And it gets up and runs..i like being able to run all 8 cylinders all the time instead of the Hemi MDS switching back and forth to 4 and 8 cylinders. I bet if I turned the MDS back on my mileage would be even better.....but its only been a day

Here's a better side view...it's easy to program and see when tilted up....WHEN YOU'R PARKED. I don't like distractions when I'm driving let alone getting "on it" when blowing the doors off some young kid in his fast and furious rice burner :)

if you have no desire to use the gauges or look at it why mount the thing at all? just load the tune and take it off the truck. interesting mount bracket for sure but defeats the purpose of mounting it if its not in your line of sight, imo.

Danny your kidding right. Lots of guys put chips in there cars with no display at all...and a lot install their tune and then REMOVE the unit or lock it in the glove box..While others tie their laptop directly into the ECM with more expensive tuners and use the laptop screen and then unhook it when done. I'm curious..and again this is just me don't take the tone of my typing as anything personal....what are you guys so fascinated about in being able to see it WHILE DRIVING...I'm just curious. Theres nothing you can do while driving that requires you to mess with it unless your pushing buttons looking at screens and why would a person do that WHILE DRIVING?.And it only shows 4 gauge readings and I can scroll thru more than that with my steering wheels EVIC controls. I understand to a point I guess,I use to be that way with my first tuner years ago...but after its set there's really nothing to look at while driving...of course I suppose if you had a hesitation and wanted to watch your TPS or MAF while driving you could do that...but I believe the bullydog has a record function like my EDGE tuner did where you can review the readings once your back home.....anyway that's why there's girls with dark hair, blondes and red heads .. because everyone has their own personal preference . Personally I know its working and don't need to look at it,again WHILE driving . i was just out sitting in it going thru the menu to turn on the function to keep my fog lights on with the high beams...but I was sitting in the drive with it tilted up with no problems.......plus I like the fact no one can see it to try and steel it. I made to other mounts when making this one...one slide into the headliner and the unit mounted in the left corner of the windshield...I liked it and could see it...but it was to out in the open for me. Although if need be and I was running diagnostics I could slide it in and hang it there and just run another HDMI cable.....Heck who knows, once I pick the tune I want and all the other options are set I may just unplug it and bring it in the house since its all about the actual tune and the way the truck runs for me . . . sorry for the long winded post...I'm sipping on a *** and coke after work relaxing and got carried away here .

Have fun banging your knee on that thing getting in the truck. I have completely f*cked up my sub level knob being mounted there in that location and it barely sticks out of that cubby hole.

Good concept though

I don't even come close to hitting it...and I'm 6ft/ 230 ...when folded down its almost flush anyway and follows the slant of the dash...and its mounted so if something did hit it ,it will swivel. Theres no bolts holding the mount in place in slides in the gap above the E-brake so that if something were to hit it, it would have the ability to move...Heck I've been modifying and doing creative mounting since the 80's when I use to install car phones for Cellular One and tend to look at things from all angles the way a snobby customer would... No this is pretty much perfect for my needs and it doesn't trash up the truck. No downside at all . . . for me

I also had it mounted on the side of the console for a bit...to do this I had it turned 90 degrees...it was 6 of one half dozen of the other....Either way I did NOT want it on the dash or pillar .
