I want to change the tire size to recalibrate the speedo. I bought and downloaded the AlfaOBD software onto my Windows laptop. It opens just fine. I tried getting out as cheap as possible so I bought the standard Chrysler 12-8 Security bypass and a generic ELM 327 USB interface from Amazon. When I could not get a connection I returned the interface and bought the OBDLink Ex. It could connect via the OBD port in the truck and showed some information such as no codes and how many miles since the last code. But AlfObd would not connect. I got the error message to check connections etc. The Security bypass I felt like was never fully connected. I could get one to click in, but the other would not click. So I returned it and am trying to order a KAOD Tech bypass. I contacted them, but no response yet.
Assuming I can get a KAOD bypass, can follow their directions that are different to connect via different ports and can get the OBDLink connected to my laptop through the OBD port so hopefully it is not a hardware issue, is there a specific order to follow to get the AlfaOBD to work? I did the press the button twice to get to Run after connecting everything, but no luck. Truck is a '23 1500 DT. Anything different about this year/model I am not aware of? Thanks

I did. I also tried lots of different combinations of Device, Modification and Interface for anything that would remotely make sense. All gave the same error message. I am hoping it is the security bypass wasn't making a good connection or was faulty. I followed up with another message to KaodTech to get one of theirs, but still no reply.

Did you close AlfaOBD, connect the interface to the OBD2 port and then to the PC? Verify the connection is working successfully and then launch AlfaOBD?

If not completed in that order, success will be hit or miss.

I would take the truck and scanner to a small shop. OBD2 are every where and a shop would have seen and dealt with all issues.

I may not have. If/when I get a new security bypass I will try doing it in that order. Thanks

Dumb question time. KAOD tech never got back to me so I bought another 12+8 bypass off Amazon. The connection chain is I connect the Bypass to the truck using the two connections under the dash, the other end of the Bypass to OBDLink EX, and then the USB of OBDLink EX to laptop. Correct? The OBDII port of the truck does not get used.

correct.

Don't forget to get all of the cables hooked up first, before you launch AlfaOBD on the laptop.

Roger that. Thank you. What confused me is the first Bypass I received could not physically connect to the OBDLink EX.

Success! It was a hardware issue originally as the second bypass I purchased work correctly. I had no issues connecting although the AlfaOBD interface I have is different from what I have seen. There are no icons or "Tools" list to select from. Mine has a few folders to choose from and that is it. Then dropdown lists to find what you need. Some poking around got there and then entering the new tire mm and the change went through on maybe the fifth or more try after submitting. I tested out the speedometer accuracy with a Garmin I have and it showed instead of being 2 mph slow at 60 it was now 2 mph fast. I measured my tire and it turns out to be 32.25" tall when on the truck and not the 33" claimed so not 2630 mm, but rather 2,573 mm. Going back in and after many attempts I finally got 2,573 to take. Testing on the highway showed it dead accurate up to 70 mph so I am happy. Phew. OCD issue resolved. Thanks to those who helped. It is much appreciated.
