How is everyone liking the Hurricane motor?

I have been looking at the 2025 Rams recently and considering one with a Hurricane motor. Currently I have 1500 crew cab with the 3.6 6 cylinder motor. No complaints with the motor but I do miss the hemi motor that this truck replaced. Can anyone give a comparison of the Hurricane vs. the Hemi motor. All replies appreciated.

I have a 2023 Wagoneer S2 SO with 3.92's and a 2024 2500 6.4 with 4.10's both have the same transmission. Wagoneer has 17,000 miles on it. This is the 3rd 6.4 I've had (2016,2021,2024)

They are roughly equivalent in power although the Hurricane comes in at lower rpm, the torque curve is smoother, flatter and longer. In a head to head pull the Wagoneer will walk away from the 2500.

Hurricane gets about 3mpg better fuel mileage.

I don't really dislike either of them, if I had an option of either in a new truck I'd likely pick the Hurricane.

Thats not good at all compared to a 3/4 ton truck. Add 1000-1500lbs, 1-3 inch bigger tires, and 3-6 inches of height and watch that hurricanes mpg drop like a rock in the 2500. Not trying to start an argument. I'm just saying.

I came from a '22 Trailboss with a 2.7 Turbo High Output. The only things I miss about that truck are the bench seats and the turbo whistle.

Before I upgraded to a '23 5.7 with eTorque, I test drove a 2025 with the Hurricane engine. It definitely has more power; very capable engine. The only thing that kept me from buying it was the sound. I literally made the decision on sound alone.

If I were in the market to upgrade, I wouldn't go for a Hurricane, instead, I would go with a new loaded 2025-2026 Ramcharger (EV).

I like the truck we purchased very much. The truck rides nice and there have not been any troubles with the truck since the fix for the glitch in the system, everything is ship shape!:)

Can you provide a better comparison of 2 similar vehicles that you own and drive?

FTR I didn't buy either one of them with fuel mileage in mind, if I had I wouldn't buy either one of them (11/14mpg respectively, I just don't care) The 2500 weighs 8565, the Wagoneer is 7600. The Wagoneer is full time 4wd (w/2sp transfer case) the 2500 is 4wd with FAD and 2sp transfer case.

Nope I can't, and thanks for the comparison!

Just said what I said since there's been rumors and some people wanting the hurricane to replace the 6.4 in the heavy duties. I'm perfectly fine with the 6.4 in mine and like you our household doesn't buy vehicles for their gas mileage.

Maybe the lack of Hurricane complaints here is a good indicator. Complaints vastly outnumber kudos on any Internet forum.

Do these motors run on hot water? And, do they lose their power when on land? LOL!!! ;)

My 23 Limited is only a year old so I won’t be in the market for awhile. But I don’t understand Stellantis approach to making the HO standard in the Limited model (and jacking the price another $5k or so). I bought a limited for the package of features and gadgets. Not everyone seeking a Limited (or Longhorn) is interested in a 12.8 sec quarter mile truck with 540 hp and 17 mpg. I sold my 03 Ford Lightning a couple years ago and got that out of my system. The HO should have been an option.

I can use both Milton and Helena as reference points... Helena made a lot of noises and flooded, something we just don't see with modern fuel injection motors. Milton made a lot of noise, not quite like the ticking sounds signaling the typical 50K maintenance on a Hemi, but more like the explosion of a Hemi at 100K...Either way, both blow. Oh yea...Both have gone away.

I would be surprised if they eliminated the 6.4 in HD trucks any time soon. Half tons which are effectively cars (for 99.999% of the market) will be fine with the Hurricane.

Only time will tell if the Hurricane is a "good engine", and being a "good engine" in a car or SUV does not in any way mean it will be a good engine in an HD truck. Maybe so, maybe not.

They have been focus group testing consumer acceptance of a turbo I6 in HDs for at least a year.

Oh I'm not saying that I don't think they are considering it, I'm just saying I'd be surprised to see them do it.

Fleet sales are not insignificant to any of the HD truck market, and any reasonably managed fleet will have specifcations for major component consideration ( 3/4 ton, crew cab,automatic, gas engine >5l,,etc) so they will have to be willing to forsake (or at least endanger)those sales.

A shifting political landscape in America will also play a part. An administration not beholden to the green new scam that has campaigned on deregulation (and is likely to win) would significantly reduce or eliminate the regulatory state that is driving (literally) the trend toward smaller displacement engines.

Vote early,vote in person.
