There is a lot of information on this forum about different exhaust mods from muffler deletes, performance muffler replacements, and cat back replacements. The OEM exhaust is already 3" stainless steel single pipe to a big (quiet) muffler, single out to a Y and then dual out to the tips. The OEM has 3 resonators - one before the muffler and one on each dual exhaust pipe to make the truck very quiet. The 2019 is quieter than the previous generations with larger resonators on each of the dual exhausts.
I agree that we need to hear our hemi but I did not want mine as loud as my son's 2017 with muffler delete (pipe replaces muffler). The first thing that most of us Harley owners is to replace the stock exhaust to hear the rumble, to what degree is the owner's preference.
If owners want the loud sound then the muffler delete is great but can be obnoxious to many. Muffler delete is just the removal of the muffler requiring one cut after the muffler before the Y and a replacement pipe setup with proper bend and flange.
If owners want a simple way to increase the exhaust sound but have a "tuned" rumble tone to it then a muffler swap is an economical way to go. There are several different muffler choices out there and some offer a simple swap setup similar to the muffler delete setup.
You could also go with a cat back system that will replace the muffler, dual exhaust pipes and dual exhaust pipe resonators, and exhaust tips from the exhaust pipe flange about half way back under the truck. Great tuned systems but more expensive system with nicer tips.
The replacement performance mufflers can be anything from straight glass packs or turned glass packs with glass insulation around the baffles to mellow out some of the exhaust sound or could have metal internal diverters to tune out some of the sound
- all without providing much back pressure.
I went with Flowmaster Super 44 replacement muffler which provides a mellow rumble that you can hear well at cold startup, slightly during idle, and more when you get on it with very very little drone. It makes me feel good to hear my hemi, one of the reasons I bought the truck, but not too loud and definitely not obnoxious.
I cut out the OEM big muffler and installed the 3" Flowmaster Super 44 with inlet offset and outlet offset to line up with the existing pipes (similar to the OEM) and added a 12" + long piece of 3" SS pipe. DYI system with proper clamps - hanger rod/clamp can be difficult. I made sure I really like the sound, which I do, and I will go to a shop to have the rear clamp replaced with a permanent weld.
Many other systems are available at different price points.
My wife was skeptical since we just bought a $60k "luxury" vehicle that was super comfortable and super quiet and I was going to DYI modification - The exhaust modification gave the truck the sound it needed and makes it even more enjoyable. My wife likes the mellow rumble also better than the quiet stock exhaust.
