My torque converter went bad and when I pulled it out I noticed it had balancing weights on it. I have a 2004 ram 2500 2wd with the 5.7l hemi and a 545rfe transmission, and the flex plate and TC were stock. I can't seem to get a straight answer online if my motor is internally or externally balanced. Should I worry about it? If I just throw the new one in without balancing it, how long until the drive train rattles itself apart?

You won't know if new one is balanced until you check it with a balancer.

i know i probably shouldnt trust it, but the listing for the new one claims its balanced. i'm more worried about if the weights i saw on the old one were for the engine balance

Torque converter weights have nothing to do with engine balance. They are there to achieve good balance on the converter itself.
