How solid is the Rebel (offroading)?

Just idle curiosity. I happened to see one today that looked like he definitely took it off-road, covered in mud. But I thought the Rebel trim was intended for off-road use right? Because his exhaust system was wrecked. His left muffler and tail pipe were hanging loose and his right tail pipe was dripping an excessive amount of gas. I'm guessing he probably abused it but I don't think the Rebel was ever intended for the kind of off-roading you would normally use a dedicated off-road vehicle for. I'm guessing he probably tried to go crashing through bush or trails most people would use an ATV or a modded Jeep for and banged the **** out of the underside on rocks and branches.

Everything has a breaking point. Not knowing how the other guy ran his, could just as easily be abuse. At least they did not show the Rebel doing jumps like the early Ford Raptor commercial ads and every idiot with a Raptor tried the same thing and broke the frames.

Coming back to the OP, tfltruck has taken the Rebel on some of Colorado's mountain trails and it faired well. Not as a good as a Raptor with long travel suspension and locking rear diff, but still made it.

Different from the Power Wagon which has mechanicals not available on regular 2500s, the Rebel is mostly an appearance/option package with more aggressive tires and the air suspension.

I think the OP is right that he saw a case of more money than brains ... :)

I have the air suspension and don't think the rebel would do any better or worse than my truck or any leveled truck with 3.92s and a limited(anti) slip rear end. As stated above its just an appearance package with 33s. Anyone can beat the **** out of their non rebel truck as well. It just isn't smart.

The only thing I think the rebel has over a stock ram is maybe a little bit better approach angle due to the bumper style and the tires. Other then at, as mentioned, it is nothing like a Power Wagon.

REBEL seems to be more of an appearance package than a functional one.

I love Ram and love what they did with the Rebal, but if I was going to get a off road truck. The raptor would be it. I love that thing, the wide stance on those trucks looks so good.

the advantages are the bilstein shocks, extra inch of height, all terrain tires and better approach angle. eveything else is cosmetic. you can basically do the same thing with any other ram 1500, they just made it a factory package. not meant to be a hardcore offroad truck, more like a nice daily driver with offroad capabilities.

I find buying a rebel to be a bit silly tbh. I dumped a fair amount of cash into my ram. It looks IMO meaner than any rebel could. And total cost is still way under what a rebel is.

That's kind of my thinking. I like to buy a few trim levels up from the bottom which gives me a nice base to work with for customizing and also lets me stay away from all the electronics extras that come standard on high trim levels (so I'm not paying to repair them). Doing my own addons costs a fraction of what a dealer will. I do the same thing on my homes, installing my own upgrades saves me tens of thousands from what the builders charge

Yep. I paid 25k for my slt. Added 13 and change on mods. And look at that. Something nicer than a rebel and way under its budget.

Ditto! I'm probably going to be sitting at $4k on mods by the end of 2017 so I have some catching up to do lol
