Just bought my first ever pickup (at age 39) after getting into an accident with my last vehicle. Figured it was time to get something I've always wanted. Ended up picking up a 2014 Ram 1500 Tradesman Quad Cab with 133k miles on it. At this point I'm kind of like a school boy with it. Already installed an aftermarket Carplay radio with backup camera, and have everything on order to blackout all my badges, install some running boards to help the kids get into the back, and black out my tailights/headlights. Wife thinks I'm going a bit nuts...

At some point I want to put actual wheels and larger tires on it, right now they're just plain black steel wheels.

Are there any other mods/equipment that you feel are must haves that won't absolutely shatter the bank?

Congratulations on your Ram.
Welcome from west Michigan.
Thank you sir! Really loving it so far. I plan to at least attempt the bulk of my own maintenance on it. I have some experience with brakes and rotors, but I really want to try and run this truck up to 250k-300k miles

Congrats. Wat motor?
Do U know the history of the MX?

If not done recently!
Oil change with filter.
Front rear diffs if never done
Anti freeze flush replacement if never done
Air filter?

I would be way more doing mechanical before other mods as 133K not a drop in the bucket so MX history stupid important.

All above IMHO.

Just had an oil change and filter before I got it at 133k. I don't have much of the history, but I guess I could pull my own car fax to see what info they have there.

Yeah I completely understand that portion. Mostly doing cheaper cosmetic stuff. I know the truck has had two owners, with the last one being a friend of the dealership I just bought it from.

One of the reasons I got this 2014 1500 was the ability to learn how to work on a vehicle since it's supposed to be pretty straight forward, and the ability to mod it. I've started with the easier stuff (matte black badges, running boards added, blacking out 3rd brake lights(and soon rest of the lights), but it has stock wheels and tires on it. Eventually I want larger rims/tires, I want to lift it, cold air intake, new exhaust, etc. Saving those larger projects for one at a time lol

Welcome!

There is a thread here called best mods for under $100.

Check it out if you have some free time. Lots of cool stuff in there.

IMO one of the best ones in there is the Dee Zee tailgate assist.

Absolutely have taken a look through that thread...there's just so much in there it's overwhelming! I will look at the tailgate assist though. Thanks!

Check out those wadestar blind spot mirrors too. Another one of my favorites I miss from my 2016.

So Monday night I was driving home from work when the temperature gauge spiked to H and the truck told me the engine was too hot. I get it towed 30 miles ($135) to the dealership which is closer to home. Thankfully the truck came with a 5,000 mile 90 day warranty from the dealership I bought it from. There was a crack in the water pump and they ended up replacing the entire thing. Thankfully I didn't have to pay for it, but we're off to a good start for sure.

Welcome! This forum was the best mod I did when I bought my ram a year ago haha!
Sorry to hear about the waterpump issue. Make sure they used the correct coolant if not then it needed flush like yesterday.
