I am replacing my battery today and noticed that the plastic screw down piece is missing.

Do I have to get a new one or not? Truck never goes off road.

Battery is quite secure w/out it. Also do you think the battery wrap is Even Necessary?

I would if it was mine. Best friend in high school didn't have a hold-down on his car, in fact I don't think any of us did back then - LOL. his battery came out of the tray going over a speed bump and got real familiar with the radiator fan and radiator. Expensive lesson. Of course, today's cars are built totally different, but that has stayed with me all these years. If you do end up getting one, the part # for your truck "should" be 68082538AB - but best to double check.

Fine I will be the dissenting voice on the battery blanket.

I tear them off everything I own. IMO they don't do much other than collect dirt and give mice a great place to nest.

When you see how thin they are and how loose they fit I can't imagine they do a whole lot to keep the battery warm or ward off heat.

From what I have read they are mostly there as a safety measure in case of total battery failure to contain acid somewhat.

They gotta do something. They’re thicker than the space suits the astronauts wore on the first Apollo missions. Just sayin……
