Went to put my level on today, within hr had all apart including springs out, then went strait to hell, these 2500 hd springs are HUGE, figured I could drop front axle low enough to get in, F$&% NO. So decided to rent a spring compressor from auto zone. What a bunch of jag offs. Took spring in and said need a SC for this, here is what I got. A PITA death trap that I think is made for a car, not a 8" dia thick ass spring. I couldn't barely get the spring back in withOUT the spacer. After it let lose once all could think was gonna again when trying to get in. What is better the internal or ex type? Think I'm gonna remove shock, load the springs, attach compressor, jack stand frame, let axle down, remove (compressed) spring, install spacer and spring, jack axle back up till no or lil tension on, remove compressor, throw shocks in from top and be done. So my question is external (one or butterfly type 2 hooks per side total of 4 lookin hook) and 2or3 clamps per spring)or internal? I want something that won't break or rated for this springs. These aren't no lil springs last thing I need is a time bomb waiting to blow. Is the problem cause they is new and stiff? What you think of my newly engineered plan? Any help would be great. Damn truck looked so beasty when was level on stands. I think a adjustable track bar is in order also.

I got the drivers side in first without any problems but the passenger side was a PITA
I found the easiest way was to stick a small bottle jack between the axle and frame and spread them
Worked perfoectly for me and I didn't have to worry about te spring compressor

1500 suspension is a whole nother animal lol

I tried my best with a heavy duty spring compressor to get the passenger side coil and spacer back in together, I didn't feel comfortable compressing the spring anymore then it was

Anybody know if 2500 springs will fit on a 1500 and if they will provide more lift? I have a 2.5" level kit but my truck still sits a little lower in the front.

Nope, completely different style of suspension
4 link with coil springs and a solid axle vs an indepent suspension with coilovers

Ya, but those things aren't things that would make the springs from a HD truck not work.

Assuming that the overall length, and diameter of the HD springs is close enough to not over-do your A-Arm angles/still fit your shock inside, then all that matters is the way the ends are cut/what their diameter is.

I do believe though that comparatively, they are way too long to replace the coil springs on the 1500s.

Keep in mind they are both coil springs lol so the suspension geometry plays no role whatsoever, other than to set limits on the sizes.

you can get bilstein 5100 adjustables and set them to max

I wasn't trying to get that in depth lol
Yes, I'm sure there is a coil over that a 2500 coil work with but it would be the length of ones you see on monster trucks and sand buggies haha
