Got my coil out with a tool that was not the best.It caused the coild to bend to one side and it would not go back into the control arm and the tower due to the bend. then it let loose the compression and then I had a uncompressed coil. Did not injure me, but scared the crap out of me.

I went to a friend's shop who had a coil compressor on the wall. Compressed successfully, was letting it loose from that tool, and then the damn compression rental let loose again. Not a good design from the O'Reilly rental fleet.

I switched to an external compression tool with two rods instead of the other design. It worked well, but when I tried to put it back into the truck, because it was outside the coil, it would not seat into the right position in the tower and control arm. It is now so tight due to compression on the tool that I cannot turn the nuts to loosen the tool.

SO, how have you gotten a spring with the above issues to seat? I have a different internal coil compressor; see the picture of the new tool below. But in order to try it, I have to get the external one off.....

Pick of the tool on it now below, you can see from the picture, circled in red, the external nature of it prevents the coil from going into the tower. Finally, I have included the screwy tool that got the spring off and the opening where the spring should seat.

Any advice is appreciated.

Go to a shop that has a press, that will relieve tension to allow the compressor tool that is stuck on there to come off.

I am headed there now to recompress and remove the strut tool that they suggested. Great tool for struts but not coil.
