I hate PlastiDip .... but in the end it works for me.

Ok so I'm sure mostly everyone here has used it in the past. I've used it over the past 5 years for minimal items such as badges and trims. For me, it's a hate/love thing.

I'll never be perfect at it, but after frustration for a couple hours, it usually ends up in the category of "good enough" for me lol.

Here are some prep pics, and finished products.

For anyone wondering about the "5.7 Liter" badge, in order to keep that visible while leaving the border blacked out. I used blue tape to cover the lettering. Before the last spray gently peel up from one corner so you can grab it easily. On the last spray while it's still wet you have like 5 seconds or less to grab the corner and peel it without it ruining the rest or pulling anything else up. Is it perfect? Heck no. But it's all I could think of and I wasn't taking a blade to it.

To be honest I screwed up the first side because I took too long to peel. The 2nd side is when i figured to lift a corner prior to the spray and then grab and pull immediately after the last spray.

I debadged mine and tried blacking out both ram emblems. It looked like crap and I said **** on it. A little chrome never hurt. Lol

It’s a love/hate here as well. About two years ago, I used plasti-dip for hood stripes.
There is definitely a learning curve to when to pull the tape off.

Like the OP, they came out “good enough for me”.
On the plus side, if I decide to change/remove them, I can just peel it off.

That looks good from here! I can't imagine using dip to perfect those lines...I know id screw it up lol .... but for stripes and random designs I tend to use vinyl and knifeless tape.

Yeah that darn antenna hits everything....I have to look into some better options but heard some of destroy radio quality.

And I'm sure all the shorties do; guys who say they don't probably aren't in the fringes to begin with, so naturally, they wouldn't notice much of a difference. If you get out in the boonies, you'll definitely experience signal degradation as propagation is a thing!

For me, I'm not terribly worried as I mostly listen to Sirius/XM and live in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex...about the only time I turn to terrestrial radio is for live weather or traffic updates (and only when either of those are bad).

Haha, I went through that ordeal with the 5.7 Liter part. I eventually caved in and bought the 5.7 L's in black then I dipped the HEMI letters! The black is slightly different, but you can't tell unless your right up on it.

So what is the magic time to pull the tape? :)

I’m sure temperature and humidity are factors as well, but when doing my hood stripes; I found that the tape pulled best(left the sharpest edges) if it was pulled as soon as I finished spraying the last coat of plasti-dip.

You can always try cutting the factory one down slightly. I hear it doesnt really affect quality at all and if it does I read somewhere someone posted it was about $15 for a factory replacement. Just pop the ball off the top trim to desired length off the top and pop the ball back on.
