I bought my truck used with around 33,000 miles earlier this year, and I currently have about 39,000 miles on the truck. It was previously a lease, so I have no idea how it was driven or what it was used for. Right now my dash reads 256 idle hours and 985 driving hours, so approximately 20% of its total operating hours are idling. Is this anything to be concerned about?

If it spent a lot of time commuting in traffic the idle hours will be higher. I used to watch mine climb each week when I was commuting during the time of day where the highway turns into a parking lot. That's low enough miles/hours that I wouldn't be too worried about it and just make sure you keep it properly maintained with good oil/filters.

Your total operating hours is actually 1241, so that makes your idle hours closer to 20% of total....

Thanks for the correction, I changed it. I never have been a math person.

Idle vs. run hours pretty much useless information, unless you know more about how the truck was used. Idling in the 110 degree Phoenix summer probably worse than regular driving on country roads in Iowa. Idling in a Northeast winter probably better than driving it on Pittsburgh potholes.
