2019 dodge ram 1500 Laramie with stock Alpine system. Normally Soundsystem is adequate. But for some reason all of a sudden the sound system dynamics dramatically reduced in quality, no depth at all, sounded like an AM radio. I checked the sound system controls/equalizer settings to no avail. It was that way for a couple of days, and then one morning the sound system was back to full dynamics, I have no explanation for it. Has anyone else experienced this problem or a solution?

Mine was doing it the other day, but only for a couple of seconds. Seems to be working just fine now.

My base audio does the same thing. Volume level 15 one day is volume level 12 the next and then volume level 24 the next.

I don't know what the audio is linked to but it sometimes has a mind of its own. It usually "rights" itself within a day or so.

I also don't use the volume speed adjust. If I turn that on (1, 2, or 3) it seems to happen more frequently.

FCA told me that there's a software update coming "within the next few months" that should address this. That was over 2 years ago...

It may be the difference between “surround sound“ being on or off.

I have plain Jane U Connect 4 radio. I asked my SA, should I do the update which has to be done by Dealer since I do not have OTA capability. And he said, if working, STAY away from update as it was bricking radios. May be why I still have the original IOS in the U Connect and neva updated (The Uconnect web site for checking your Radio IOS is useless). Having a plain jane with none of the extra stuff also means no OTA updates, works for me. But I am just a humble BOIRD. I'll just run all the stuff I need, Maps etc off of phone. (YEP that update from 2 years ago disappeared I think out the South end of a North bound mule).
