Traded my 2019 Limited yesterday for a new 2026 limited, and man, did I take a beating. The 2019 had the leather(?) dash pad that had., like so many others, wrinkled from whatever reason. The dealer I traded with said because of the dash pad I would loose 15K on the value of my truck. Really upset me, I had nothing to do with the dash pad wrinkling upi, and from what we've talked about on here, Ram would do nothing about their poor development of the dash pad. You could pay about 3500$ to have it replaced/fixed or live with it. Well, being a poor country boy, I lived with it, only to get the shaft when I traded it. Just not happy, and wanted to warn anyone else that may be into buying a new truck.

Most people get the shaft buying new vehicles one way or another.I hope your dash isn't identical to the last because the same thing will happen.Enjoy your new truck and try and do what I do,which is try forget how much you paid.

Sounds like a load of bs to me. Yes the dash pads are notorious for the peeling, but 15k off the trade in value is way out of line. Salesman threw out a load of bs and sadly you believed it. Why wouldn't you fix the dash and then trade in and pocket 11k and change for no work since you're paying to have it fixed if that was the case? I remember listing my brand new factory take off tires for 250 bucks. Guy tried to tell me they weren't worth anything as they were junk and he'd have to pay for mounting and balancing,, but he'd give me 50. Sold for asking same day I listed them with enough other people inquiring to have me take the ad down quick. So many people throw out bs and lowball hoping for a sucker or desperation to get a deal.

And nothing more satisfying then selling whatever it is and then getting to tell the guy besides. A few months ago I listed a chop saw I wasn't using any more at a good price (Stihl, $650 and these go now for almost $1400 new). Got a mountain of hits on it but a ton of low ballers. One guy kept bugging me in $25 increments. Next day I got a guy knew it was a good price, said he'd meet me in an hour with the cash. Full price of course (I was firm on price). Just as I was getting back in my truck the other guy calls me $600 final offer. I laughed as I told him I just watched the successful buyer drive off with it and I had my $650 in my pocket  :flipthebird:

Surely you meant to add a decimal point - 1.5K, which is about what their cost to fix it is, not the full markup dealers charge. When my 2003 dash disintegrated, the deal said they'd split the cost and charge me about $1500 (might have been less but still over $1000). I declined and put on a skin I got from Amazon for about $120. For my 2019, the most beautiful interior dash ever designed to win Truck Of The Year (two years running) wrinkled, split and was breaking up all the plastic edging (like around the speakers etc.). It was under warranty and Ram fixed it. And, now about three years later, it is coming unglued again. Or, more likely, the bubble gum they stuck under the faux leather is failing again.

My brother's son-in-law works for RAM as a technician. He said to keep it out of the sun. I'm in the South and it just cant take the heat. One of those windshield reflectors is all I can do to slow down the process. And your new truck will have the same issue in all likelihood. But be comforted - you are not alone. Dodge Chargers, Challengers, Jeeps - they all have this issue in one form or another. Friend with a Charger was here a few months ago and his was coming apart too and he said the same thing - can't stand the heat.

I have a new 2016 1500 Laramie and the dash pad has no cracks or wrinkles. I bought a velour dash cover shortly after I bought the truck. The pad just sits in place, I did not use the sticky pads to hold it in place. Anyway, I live in Kansas and it does get hot here and the interior bakes. The truck has never been garaged, it will not clear the door opening, so it suffers from whatever the environment throws at it. Has the cover prevented any damage to the pad? Not sure, but I would get another one if I get a different vehicle.

Sometimes we speak in “colloquialism's” … “Fifteen-thousand bucks”… is an easy way to also say, “a Lot of Money” …without actually meaning one-thousand-five-hundred ten-dollar-bills.

The penchant internet-warriors have for denigrating some unknown other person behind their own anonymous usernames and keyboards…. is unfortunate and small-minded.

I also suffered a monetary pitfall. My “forever-truck” was wrecked by an old man who ran his red light while I was out of state and stuck without a vehicle to pull the camper back home…. and I’d just had a “windfall” insurance-settlement on a different calamity….so the money was in the bank and the new truck was outrageously overpriced at $100K…. but it was simply too easy to write that check and drive the new chariot home…. despite really only being a “poor country boy”.

The new expensive truck mostly just sits in the driveway. It makes lousy logic why this occurred like it did.

But it is what it is.

No reason for anyone to denigrate me over it.

It was My decision to do what I did.

Sharing my experience on a truck forum is only being a friendly human.

Mine came loose on my 2022 Limited with 47000 miles. I have an extended warranty which wouldn’t cover it. The dealer in Little Rock offered to split the $1100 cost with me.

I have always parked in shade when possible. If wifey doesn’t wanna walk the extra steps I drop her. If I’m in the sun I use a windshield screen even in the winter.

You are correct, I was sorta pissed when I typed that.. it was $1500.00 loss on the trade. Thanks for pointing that out. D

That Little Rock Dealer was genuinely offering sympathy by giving up any profit on the repair. I’d give them my consideration next time I wanted anything they sold….and tell them so.

Genuine leather ….is genuine Organic material. If ANY genuine organic material stands out in the sun beneath a piece of glass in a closed space….. it will deteriorate…. including You and Me!

(I’ve got a Limited and I don’t park it outside except when traveling. I suppose a cover or screen, an opened window, should always exist….or I should prepare for it.)

Who was the Little Rock dealer? I bought mine from Fletcher Dodge in Sherwood but there is a dealer across the river in LR. My truck is in the garage most of the time (retired) and I use a sun shade when I go somewhere and parking but the interiors still get very hot inside in the summer. Not sure how long I will own the 23 Limited but to answer the question in post #11, I wouldn’t buy a new RAM now. If they manage to get the electrical/electronics stuff sorted out for reliability and body issues for leakage for a couple of years, then I may change my mind.

They stuck it to you without lube if they took $15K off for a dash panel and you accepted that.
