When you disconnect the battery you sometimes need to reset the throttle position value. This is done by re-connecting the battery, turn on the ignition and waiting 10 seconds without touching the accelerator pedal, turn off the ignition then start normal. Also if the engine cranks and doesn't start, you might try holding the gas pedal to the floor to cut off the injectors (flooded condition) while cranking.
