The infotainment system on my Ram 1500 Laramie has started to ghost. It is randomly starting and stopping functions and trying to call for SOS. Turning off climate controls etc… Very frustrating and dangerous. I have heard delamination on the touch screen can cause this. Is there anyway of turning off the system so I can drive the truck without going crazy and being distracted until I can get it into a dealership? I also need to be able to manage the climate system without the screen functioning.

Is your screen showing delamination? It was 2018 8.4 screens that had the problem. You can disconnect radio, simple enough to do, just remove screws under mat in change holder in top of dash, pop bezel trim off, about 8 or so screws holding radio in, and unplug. I assume you have all physical buttons and knobs to control everything?

Dealer won't fix it at this age unless you have extended warranty and it specifically covers this. If you are having delamination problems you can buy replacement screen on eBay, search this topic in the forum. Not that hard to do. If you don't want to do that, you can buy a 8.4 used unit at car-parts.com, I got mine through there.

Thank you for the response. That is exactly the scenario I am in. Yes, it is showing delaminating and yes it is a 2018. We are just about to head out in a 1700 mile trip and no time to resolve. I just need it to stop creating chaos while driving. Thanks.

It took me a few days to find a workaround on mine for your same situation. I had to search for a screen that didn't have buttons where the ghost touches were occurring. I think I ended up putting it on the owner's manual, but I almost pulled my hair out trying to get there. I swear someone could go into seizures from that thing changing screens so fast like a Japanese cartoon.

Thanks, I’ll give that a try. It’s currently sitting at an airport and once we land we have a 2 hr drive home late at night. My wife will go nuts playing wack a mole with the screen for that long.

Instead of making that effort immediately, could he not just remove the radio fuse for instant satisfaction? Is that different from disconnecting the radio harness?

I don't know the system and it's integration near enough to have an answer, maybe just pulling the fuse first might be the solution and it would be worth a try first. I was just reading the OP's post where the last sentence spoke about needing to control the climate system. Does the radio being plugged in and not working cause some cross contamination where they aren't able to control temperature right now? I wasn't sure how to read that last sentence and wondered if they were having problems. I also don't know if there is anything spliced out of the radio power line so was thinking, since they have to remove the radio anyway to fix it replace it, why not just go that route.

I would be surprised that the HVAC functions without the radio but haven't tested this process.

My Warlock also has temperature controls on the dash, maybe, you have blind control without the radio.

If you're going to disconnect the radio, I can't see the outcome being any different than removing the fuse.

May as well take the 15 second solution over dismantling the dash to disconnect the radio, at least for instant test results and especially if short on time.

I do have climate controls on the dash so I will try the fuse solution first. Much better than the ghost touches trying to turn on the AC and seat cooling when it’s -10° outside. I won’t be back at the truck for a few days but will post my results.

Delamination is a real issue with the Uconnect 4 radios. Its a defect it the screen for the first two versions of the screen that LG released for these radios. If you use version 3 or 4 as a screen replacement the delamination will never come back. If you use version 1 or 2 of the screen for the repair, the delamination will happen again in time. We repair these units all the time and only use screens that will never have this happen again. If you want a professional repair done to the unit and the repair comes with a warranty then give us a ring. Our advisors can answer any questions you have about the repair process.

Ok, so I replaced my delaminated screen with one from Amazon. Problem is several of the factory plastic connectors to the unit broke upon removal. They won't stay tight now. Need help on replacing these connectors. Everything works great as long as I manually hold the connectors on..Thanks for any help/advice
