Installing a DD in your 4th Gen

Be warned, DDs don't fit like you would think!

Looks can be deceiving. That spiffy head unit you got in your new 4th gen may look like a DD, but its not quite as tall as most aftermarket DDs. So, some light cutting is involved.

Here is what needs to be cut to fit a 4" tall DD into the stock location:

First you have to cut the plastic between the radio bolts, then you have to remove the top of the metal surround behind the radio. Tin snips to the rescue!

that is the one down fall of the rams i think. you have to cut and mod for a dd to go into my ram as well. how do you like the ixa-404 jeremy? i have the ida-x200 and love it but it is time yo upgrade. does it have video capabilities?

I LOVE this thing. I had a ixa-id100 (or something like that) in my 08. Loved it and knew that I am an Alpine fanboy now. This one does have video capabilities. I need to get back into the wiring though - I have my bypass deal sitting in the garage. Stupid what you have to do to just get into the menus on this thing. Its a parking break dance from hell.

Best part - I nabbed the head unit for like 265 on ebay. Worst part? Woot had it like a week later for 200. ********.

I also hate the mounting kit. Looks like ass..........I need to figure something else out there.

cool im all alpine all the way except the all the wires thats rf. my boss want my x200 and i have been eyeing the w505 but its real pricey but it does read dvds as opposed to overloading my ipod with movies. decisions decisions. oh are ther video outputs? i guess i could just look on onlinecarstero.com and see huh.

I was close to buying the W505, but DAMN - its 450 bucks! I couldn't bring myself to do that. I don't need the video (don't even use it), but I wanted a touch screen DD. Works GREAT with the iPhone too.

The iPod stuff is what sold me on these things - and I put in a dock last night - love that! Just need to find a better place to mount it...........gotta think about that one. I'd REALLY love to get one set up that sits in the cupholder......like down in the cupholder.

Anyone know if they make something like that?

hell make one jeremy you are a master fabricator. im guessing you use your iphone, i just throw my touch in the glove box and forgetaboutit. does this one have bluetooht built in or do you have to buy the pieces?

master fabricator my ass. LOL - but I have some ideas........we'll see on those. I use my iPhone - and honestly, I am thinking about just using the USB thumb drive in the truck. I would like to get a USB port in my dash. Forget about using the iPhone for my music and use the USB, less wires, no mess. I think I can get me another "RAM" insert like I have now, and use the one I have now to cut into for the connectors.

What I really wish? I would LOVE to have a "dock" for the phone in the cupholder (like above) and a USB port in the dash - then swap for whatever I want. But, I can't use a USB hub on this setup (tried that already!).

Fail...so this is still a double din then, and I would still have to cut my dash to get it to fit.
