This is probably going to be a little long. I love my new 2500, but of course, it can always be better. I've had company cars forever, so this is my first vehicle in a long time that I can mod to my liking. I've been spending time and money on my motorcycles, so I'm trying to use that experience to make good decisions and not add things that I later don't like.
With bikes anyway, making the intake more free breathing and efficient makes more difference than throwing that time and money on the exhaust, unless you go stupid noisy. I do like a loud intake honk, because once you get to steady speed, its quiet again. I also like "Factory speed" parts, because they look sano once installed. So, my first thought was, has anyone taken some air cleaner/airbox parts from the super high HP 6.x motors and adapted them for the HD trucks? The more I thought about it, the less likely it seemed, because the top ones are supercharged, and also they don't have the height under the hood that the HD trucks do. So, with all that room under the hood, does someone sell a big volume airbox/air cleaner setup that works? I should probably mention that I'm no fan of K&N filters because of my experience with them on dirt bikes, so I'm certainly not just dropping one in the stock airbox. But I probably would if there was a system that used a K&N the size of a small card table!
On to the exhaust. I love how loud the truck is on startup, sounds like a caged animal trying to escape. But once at operating temp, it's pretty tame. I do hate loud exhausts that drone on the interstate; it's like ice picks in my ears. It has a good, deep rumble as-is, I'd just like to make it more so.
I am hoping to pickup a little bit of fuel mileage by hopefully increasing the volumetric efficiency of the motor, and make it sound better too.
Thanks!
