I'm new to the forum but am now driving my second Ram truck. It's a 2008 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi quad cab 4x4.

I just installed a Spectre cold air intake kit to my 2008 ram 5.7 Hemi, the metal box that comes with the kit and houses the filter is slightly too tall and my hood doesn't quite close all the way on the passenger side (not enough to really matter, you can barely tell with the naked eye). I've notices other systems on here who have routed the filter to hang down on its own. Any tips on how this is done or where I can find some? I feel like I will notice more from the system if the filter is more free. Any comments?

I've got pictures posted in the cold air intake thread, I can put some on here later too... I did a lot of research before I went with this system and choose it because the price was right and so far the performance has been an improvement. A couple of slight mods would still be worth it..

I would agree. It's only been on the truck for 3 days, but so far I can really feel a difference in performance. Haven't noticed a economical difference yet but it hasn't gotten worse!

Thats a heck of an air box, is it sitting on the inner fender mount or can the hangers be tweeked down some.

I believe it clips onto the lower half of the OEM air box. That's how it gets air through the fender. Sure doesn't leave a whole lot of wiggle room for fitment though.

Yes it sits on the factory box mount on the fender and uses the factory clips to hold it in place... May just cut the top down a little for a better fit

You might even remove the whole box and mounting hardware and fabricate a support just for the filter.

I've thought about that too. Any idea where I could find a template or example of one like that?

The joy of fabrication. I would strip out everything but the filter and see what holes there are. then get some material from Lowe's, Tractor Supply or a machine shop. The template would be of whatever design you like, I'd first make it out of cardboard. It could be a shield made of aluminum mounted to existing holes to a simple support bracket using a hose clamp to secure it. Whatever, I would try to use existing holes to mount it and make it as unque as you like.
