Makes sense. My truck see's a lot of idle time and here's the reading after setting for an hour or longer.

Well, I watched that video and the subsequent one. In the second video he lays out entirely different theories. That does not give me a great deal of confidence in his ideas. The other point is, if it is simply a matter of putting on a higher volume oil pump, which they already have for the HellCat I would think Chrysler would do that. Far cheaper than redesigning a whole motor.

Couple observations here. My idle oil pressure increased after switching to a bigger filter, RP 20-820 or Fram XG2. Both caused warm idle pressure to jump from around 37psi to around 47psi.

I also noted where he mentions fleet trucks sometimes are tuned for higher idle rpm. Mine is an ex fleet truck and idles at around 700 to 725 rpm.
I've seen posts where idle rpm is mentioned at like 550 or so, so I'm curious what other users idle rpm is.

Regardless it's too late to help mine, 4700+ idle hours at 106K miles when I bought it, had headers installed (5 broken bolts!!!)
but still sounds like the truck in his video.

It's not cam hardening. You will never find one report that includes facts that will say this. Listen guys, there is two things hemi tick and cam lobes, the fact hemi tick exists for many rams and the cam isnt eaten should tell you something. The fact that we have many examples of lifters and only about 1/2 of them have messed up rollers, others can have nothing or scuffing on the side of the lifter. The fact you have have a hemi tick last for 100k miles should also quickly dispel the notion of cam hardening issue. We have an example of a metallurgy done on a cam lob that was rubbed to the nub, as good as anything made. But I like this guys videos, and this one has good info, just also has wrong info mixed in.

Mine went up a bit too after switching to the SRT filter. Don't remember, 5-10 psi at cold idle

I am running the Puraltor boss filter and mine at hot idle is 46 psi as of this morning. I just happened to look at it on the digital part.

interesting. I would not have thought about that. I never paid attention to what the smaller filter ran. But that's the first thing I do on the first oil change on my Hemi's, use the larger Mopar oil filter. Maybe that's why I have a higher at hot idle oil pressure.

Wow! 4700+ in just idle hours? How many total hours on that beast? To me, that's an amazing endurance test right there. Totally OT, but does yours have the 8 or 6spd trans?

My 2019 classic, hemi is currently at exactly 70 idle time hours and 900 total hours at 42500mi. I bought mine in July 2020 as an ex-rental w/ 15K miles on it. The idle time hours were right around 70 when I got it. I never idle the thing and my driving is basically zero stop/go and all highway.

It has the 6 speed, 65RFE.
Here's the total hours and miles as of today:

I figure it idled around 4 hours a day, 5 days a wk, for the 4 years or so that the company owned it, just a rough guess based on the idle hours.
I probably would have passed it up if I'd known to look at this screen before I bought it! Oh well, it will be freshly rebuilt with cam and nonMDS lifters and hopefully last another 100K.
"Cheaper to keep 'er!" :Big Laugh:

I wonder how accurate the gauges and readouts actually are on our trucks. On my 2019 classic hemi, my cold start oil pressure digital readout usually settles at 60psig and hot idle is around 50psig. I used Supertech synthetic 5w30 and $2 champ PF48 filters, changed at a 5000mi interval.

I've recently switched to the new 'ultra deluxe' 20K mile Supertech synthetic. It's just under $19 for a 5qt jug lately.
