Searching through the threads I could not find any consensus on using NGK vs. MOPAR spark plugs. Anyone have any feedback after installing NGK? Price difference is huge. I don't want to cut corners on a 100K mile item at the price level, but don't want to overspend if I am going to get the same result. Here is what I found:

MOPAR 16 pack: Part# SP143877AB: Price $160
https://www.ebay.com/itm/DODGE-RAM-...435820&hash=item5d7986c604:g:yxIAAOSwYwJaTlW~

NGK 16 pack: Part# SPLZFR5C11: Price $60
https://www.amazon.com/Chrysler-Dod...728&sr=8-1&keywords=2014+ram+1500+spark+plugs

This is for a 2014 5.7. Feel free to correct me if my part numbers are wrong.

What mileage should I change my spark plugs?

The manual says 30000 mile interval. Some go up to 50000 miles and say they could have gone longer based on how the plugs looked.

Just on late 2013 and older from what I have come to understand. I have no idea when they changed it in 2013. I'm talkin 1500 models, don't know jack about much else, such as your 2500!

Thank you. I was focused on my 03 5.7. Can now check what was installed last year.

Hello,

I’ve read through the thread and find myself confused.

I have a 2012 5.7. OEM is Nickel or Iridium plugs? I thought they were Nickle, was there a change from FCA? Can anyone link the plug part I should currently be using?

My original post was a goof. I was trying to understand such a huge price variance in iridium plugs and did not realize the second set were not iridium.

Amazon gets top of the search engine no matter what you type in, lol...

Second set I linked to would actually be for your 2012 Laramie.

Interesting... I'm looking in my 2013 owner's manual and all it says under spark plugs is "Use MOPAR Spark Plugs" and supplies no numbers/types... Says 60,000 mile intervals on the plugs in my manual, which is also highly subjective if you ask me.
Of course, parts stores/online parts sources list both plug types as acceptable for my year.

Yes, the iridium plugs ARE way better plugs (last a lot longer), and due to the finer wire they foul way less and develop a hotter spark, but I've never heard how one plug or the other would affect the coil pack life.
Looks like the coil packs are the same part# from 2013-2016 too (those are the only years I checked).

Not doubting you, just curious....

The early model Gen 4s - 09-12 - use copper plugs. I've read of issues using iridiums in them - misfire codes and such. But, it seems now, according to Rock Auto at least, that there are iridium plugs for the early trucks. I would think it would extend the 30k change interval, but haven't heard of anyone using them. Mine need changing, but I'm leery of spending big $s on iridiums only to have issues.

What did you end up going with. I keep getting mixed signals on this forum... I understand we need to use the copper for my 2012 5.7 but why do i need NGK or some other $8-$12 plug, why not the $3 champ 446.

Even NGK website recommends the 92145 (LZFR5CI-11) stating FCA recommends these plugs to replace the Nickle plugs in my 2011. I have a set of 92145 that will be installed within the next 2 weeks.

When I had my 2007 4.7L I used the champions and they were fine. I don't remember the part number, but I believe the new plugs were the same as oem, with the same number stamped on them as the set I pulled out.

30k, copper plugs for your 2010.
I would for copper plugs change them one time and look at the plugs. Just did this again on my Commander Hemi Limited. Next time 40K for sure on the OEM Champions.
