Is NAV activation worth it?

I’m pretty pleased with the Uconnect on my 18 so far but one of them Tesla-style radios would be pretty neat. They just ain’t cheap.

You can get a nice pioneer Kenwood or jvc for around $450 to $500 including the wireless nex... Which means wireless carplay or andoid ..

They make one of those that also has the AC and heater controls built into it, along with all the other settings, like the tesla radio?

For the price of nav for uconnect you can just get an entirely different level of experience by replacing it all together... Just my .02 anyways.

Well for that price it’d have to be pretty spectacular for me to wanna replace it.

Nice to know there’s some options out there in the aftermarket but I’m assuming the mobile Uconnect services would no longer work, huh? I never thought I would’ve but I’ve become quite accustomed to that service and will be paying the fee annually when the free year expires.

Ah ya I'm not sure if that's retained or not... The only way to check is if you go on maestros site and put in your vehicle info..

I bought a used 2016 1500 about 3 months ago... and I've used it several times, and like it. I thought it was 'active' all the time.

Perhaps the previous owner paid for activation, or is it just a 'trial' version... like Sirius XM???

Any further thoughts would be great. I mean, I have and use Google Maps too... so if the factory Nav is in fact a free trial, I guess that's ok. Something I won't pay for, but that's just me.

Previous owner probably paid for it or the truck came with the nav-included head unit

I prefer Google maps for other reasons, but I wouldn't want to replace the stock head unit with something aftermarket to get cheaper/better integration. After years of putting loud, expensive stereos in my vehicles, its always bothered me that none of them really looked like they belonged like the stock one did (closest I ever got was a single DIN into the double DIN dash of my 2000 Accord, using Honda parts because a single DIN radio was available from the factory).

And now with UConnect so integrated into the truck, even more of a reason to work with what I have instead of replacing.
