Q is the Baldwin a duel filter like the Nanonet? Based on the reply you received Baldwin does not claim that their fuel filter meets Cummins Specification what ever it may be. Myself I do not have enough information to make the claim like you have that Cummins Nanonet technology is a bunch of BS...
As I understand what I was told the under the hood filter is a duel filter, the outer part of the filter is 5 micron water block, the inner filters at 3 micron, is that 100% true I have no idea, but I also do not have $20\K laying around just in case by using a non specification fuel filter FCA voids my fuel system warranty, yes it would be nice to save $$$ but I am not willing to risk it...
Again Baldwin states they meet or exceed OEM spec and the Fleetgaurd Nanonet technology only filters down to 4 microns as stated below and Fleetgaurd is Cummins filter brand. The only thing that Nanonet is , is a Cummins/Fleetgaurd registered catch phrase to make you think you are getting something special.
You can purchase whatever you feel comfortable with but the fact is that 4 microns is 4 microns no matter who is measuring it. If someone is stating that spec is tighter, then Cummins own filters do not meet spec for their engines.
Fleetguard Fuel Filters featuring NanoNet® Advanced Filtration Media
With extensive field-testing over a three-year development cycle, NanoNet advanced filtration media is the latest in the Fleetguard fuel product lineup. Engineered to deliver unmatched protection and superior uptime for customers using revolutionary manufacturing technology, NanoNet media is a major leap forward over competitive media in several ways. The first of its kind for fuel filtration, NanoNet has the capability for increased filtration efficiency while also extending filter life beyond the capacities of conventional premium fuel filter media available on the commercial market today. Trapping 98.7 percent of all particles as small as
4 microns (12 times smaller than the smallest particle visible to the human eye) means that NanoNet is ten times more effective at hard particle removal than the next best competitive product—Fleetguard’s own StrataPore media.
