There are two 2022 Ram 1500 on separate car lots. What do you think about each of them.

2022 Ram 1500 Limited Night Edition

5.7 V8 Hemi. Ivory White Exterior. Black accents on truck, 47,277 miles $46,900. Also has the 3.92 rear axle and 33 gallon tank

Next truck is a

2022 Laramie 40,030 miles at $35,900 with the 33 gallon tank and 3.31 rear axle ratio.

Biggest performance difference is the rear ratio. The 3.92 would be good if you plan to do a lot of towing or just want a bit more zip. The 3.31 might be a bit better on fuel economy especially if you do a lot of highway traveling. Kind of up to you if the additional features of the Limited are worth another $11,000. Some people don’t want the e-torque Hemi version and 2022 was the last year it was optional. So if one of them is non e-torque equipped, that might be a factor to you. I have a Limited and really like some of the features such as the powered running boards.

Most of it will be high way miles as I do a lot of traveling for hunting and fishing. I also do a lot of field trials/hunt tests with my beagle hounds so the mpg would be nicer. I say my truck will be in the garage most days during the week only to have it out during the weekends. I don’t haul a lot but I do some. The limited is really nice but I like the Patriot Blue color better.

I have a small car that I can drive to work everyday plus I also have a 2014 Ram 1500 that I also use.

Did you confirm if the trucks are E-Torque models or not?

I wouldn't touch an E-Torque at any price.

I hope to keep my Hemi till the wheels fall off. Then I'll figure out how to reattach them and keep going.

I did find a 2022 Laramie Longhorn White 3.21 rear axle 33 gallon tank at 91,600 miles for $43,000.

Without E-Torque.

What’s the issue with E-Torque? I’ve got a 2022 Big Horn with E-Torque, it seems ok. It’s got 3.21 rear gear ratio, 33 gal tank, towing package all the other bells and whistles. I love it.

I have Limited and it is so much nicer and wonderful. That's where I would go.

Many members love their E-Torque but more than a few of us don't appreciate the complicated nature of the system.

Whenever everything is working well, they're mildly beneficial for gas mileage but because of the complexity of the system, when things go south, you better have a good strong Mopar warranty and backup transportation available.

We typically only see the negative features listed and cried about here but many of us with technical backgrounds in one field or another have a clear understanding of how complex systems operate.

The more moving parts and complexity of any device or system will often result in a higher incidence of failure and grief. And, with the recent behaviour and failures of Stellantis to simply standby their warranties, I would always advise against owning an E-Torque unless...

If money is no object, you own numerous vehicles, the truck isn't required regularly, and you change your vehicle every few years, it might be OK but not in my books.

It is an engineering marvel, just too complex for my interests.

Thanks for your reply, well I guess you answered my 2nd post, I probably should purchase an extended warranty?

You're most welcome.

An extended warranty requirement would depend on how long you intend to keep it.

Some folks plan to replace their trucks every 2 or 3 years. I wouldn't dare keep one without a Mopar warranty but these days, I've read far too many stories of Stellantis being what appears to be grossly negligent, not covering items that are black & white.

For instance, there were many years of water ingress from the CHMSLs and yet they only cover specific years, unless you fight with them. And, AFAIK, they might cover the window frame but not the RF Hub on the back wall when it fries. Same for the fancy E-Torque battery or generator.

I'm only guessing from reading between the lines but there must be some fire with all that smoke.

Granger is a dealership that sells Mopar warranties across Canada and the US. They have a thread at Ram Forum with an online portal to get free estimates. Also, Mark Dodge is another dealership to investigate.

Both of them have URLs and contact info here. Use the search icon in the upper right corner or search either name with your favourite search engine followed by ramforum.com to find the threads.

I'm not trying to cause you stress, I'm just doing my best to share my technical concerns.
Many owners have had little or no grief with their E-Torque trucks.

It might just be a case of, how lucky do you feel?
