so im looking at 4 ton jack stands for $45 at autozone which are guaranteed for life but harbor freight (i know, risky) has cheep ones for $18 on sale. should i take the risk of possibly getting crushed or them braking with no warranty and save the money or take the autozone stands?
plus the autozone duralast ones look nicer

I haven't used the HF stands, but I recently bought some stands and had a problem going for the cheapest thing I could find. Poor quality units (regardless brand or supplier) can kill you if they fail.

I ended up going with the Torin 6 ton jack stands w/ double locking ratchets. They are well built, over-sized and have the double ratchet locks. Yes, they could still fail, but I feel better about them than the others I looked at.

Price was only $45 for the set.

I'd ay on anything without moving parts like power tool kinda things would be fine from hf...I still prefer a higher quality part...I use four 6 ton stands even on our cars for safety...

I use harbor freight even for tools with moving parts. My sazall, 4" grinder, bench grinder, drills, pneumatic impacts all work great. If being used in a nonprofessional environment, they will last long enough. Pro's who use their tools all day, I get it.
