I was wondering if the K&N drop in air filter will make the truck louder and perform better then just the stock filter. It will go into the stock filter housing for now before a CAI. Any thoughts and experience is appreciated.

Re: K&N Air Filter Help?

I didnt notice anything at all to be honest. The main reason i bought mine was the benefit of hosing it off, putting some oil on it and sticking it back in the box. Some peoples butt dynos read 100hp gains and others say they saw nothing. If you can justify the money to buy it, go for it

Like said, they are only good for the fact that they will last the life of the truck. You wont feel any performance increase with it though unless your current filter is extremely dirtys and choking airflow.

A clean filter will always run better, but the difference in performance between a clean paper filter and a clean K&N filter is marginal.

do some research into the filtering qualities of oiled gauze filters vs paper before you purchase one. I wasn't impressed with what I read.

A complete cold air intake will give a noticable increase in intake noise, but a filter swap lone in the stock airbox wont give any extra noise.

I'm sure my experience would have been the same replacing a dirty paper filter with a new filter, reuse able filters are just really convenient

K&N Air Filter Help?

I went with the dry flow from AFE I got sick of the clean and oil practice as I always did it in the bathtub and the oil stuck to it for days and it was red so easy to see. I am not a fan of cotton gauze filters that need to be oiled. To do it again though I would go with the nano fiber Amsoil filter it is only rated for 100000 miles but that filter will out filter all these other options.
