In two weeks or so i am buying a 2013 ram express single cab. I am getting a K&N drop in from autozone until i can afford a vararam. DO I NEED A CATCH CAN FOR THE K&N DROP IN?...or can a run it for a year or so without a catch can?...I understand it wont give me much power and maybe none, but every little bit helps.

THANKS

You don't need a catch can for a drop in air filter, or for any mod to be honest.

With that said....... I would rather have the catch can before any other mod. The catch can pays for itself the first time you empty it out and see all the "nasty" that didn't go into your motor.

I agree. I would add a catch can before spending money on a drop in filter. You wont gain any power from a drop in filter by itself, so the added protection from the catch can would be a better investment.

Agree 100% just emptied my catch can for the first time this morning and I was shocked to see what could have wound up back in my hemi. Took a few days for it to pay for itself, like maybe a week and after seeing what didn't go back in my engine was enough for me, hands down no questions asked, a needed mod. Thanks to Matt at Moe's

i have never changed one, are they pretty easy to change and with the lower temps a noticable power difference?

I agree catch can first it will help more then filter

Also on the t-stat you won't see major power gains
But having the engine cooler is always better for performance
It won't have any Hp gains but your truck will run better and cooler
As far as install about a 10min job to remove and install new
