I just bought a new 2025 Ram Laramie and the sales person gave me a key card. It supposedly can be put in my wallet and used to open my truck, I'm guessing if I lose both of my key fobs.

I do not see much real value with this card as I will just use my key fob. Does anybody have one of these and if so what do you see as the value of it?

BTW... I find nothing in the owner's manual on this key card.

The intended purpose of the nfc key card is to be a backup to the smart phone as a key feature, not a backup to the fobs.

Thanks, I still do not see the value in the card over the key fob. I do not use the smart phone feature as I also see no value in that if you have the key fob. Probably just an opinion as some may see value that I don't see.

Think of it more as a spare key vs something to use over your key fob. It describes it as a backup to the digital key but it seems like it could be used independently as just a spare key.

Then in your case, you can simply throw the key card in the garbage can, and not worry about it anymore. That’s the great thing about options and features- if you don’t think it’ll be a benefit for you to use, you don’t have to use it. If it makes sense for you to use , then you can use it.

Mr. Schleicher,
I would be happy to take the access card off your hands as my new 2026 Laramie did not come with one and I’ve been unable to get any answers from the dealers in order to obtain one for my new truck.
Thanks,
George

The idea of an NFC key card is pretty cool. The issue is, my wallet is also a RFID blocker. I also have my passport etc in RFID blockers. So in order for me to use the NFC key, I would have to take out my wallet find the card, take it out to use it, If it is needed to start the vehicle then I would need to leave it out all the time.

Fixing another problem that didn't need fixing.

You pretty much have to take it out of your wallet to tap the door handle to unlock, and tap the wireless charger to start the truck anyway. It’s only intended as a backup, and not used on a regular basis.

This thread and the reaction to it is funny. You are right it’s just a back to the key fob when it doesn’t work or is lost. Nobody is being forced to used it.!
