I think the ignition switch on my 2013 RAM 1500 is bad. I can get a new one but don’t think it would work with existing key fobs. Are the key fobs programmed to the switch or to the vehicle itself? Can I just replace the switch?

Key fob is linked to a separate module. Dash switch is just a contact. You sure truck battery is good? Might not hurt to replace key fob battery as well.

I thought it was the battery and replaced it. It wasn’t the battery. I changed the battery in the fob and still nothing. I was hoping I could just replace the switch. I opened the switch module up and noticed there is a little motor inside with a gear on it. Any idea what this could be? It doesn’t do anything when I turned the key. This could be the problem.

Sounds like you might have the older style fob that you insert and turn. That setup is probably a multi-position switch for the different spots when you turn. Like a rotary switch driven by a gear.
