Key/Headlights Alarm

Mine has stopped working. I think they are one and the same device/alarm that tells me either I left the lights on or the key in the ignition?

How do I trace where the problem is?
I have the truck overseas and have a lot of trouble finding a mechanic familiar with Ram 2500 trucks

2001 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 diesel or is it a 5.7

I don't understand. Your key isn't working? Or your alarm? It's the 5.9 in the diesel.
