Dumb question. First vehicle with keyless star. .but I stopped at a gas station the other night with people in my truck so I could *** in and get a soda. I left truck running. When I got back in my truck...everyone was complaining thar the truck kept loudly beeping or chiming saying key fob has left the vehicle. Any way around this other than shutting it off or taking key out of pocket every time you want to get out of truck?
What if you want to leave it running and run in a store when you are by yourself...can you lock it while it's running and walk away with fob in pocket?
Still learning all the little quirks with this system. I did find out accidently that if fob is in truck and you remote start from the app...you can't get in without using app to unlock doors..lol

If you leave it running with someone in there and get out you will need to leave the keys in the truck. No way around that one.

As far as walking away with it running And locking it, I don't think so.

Can be locked from the fob or outside door handle button but not the inside lock button.

I've had the same problem at the gas station. If I'm not leaving the vehicle to go inside the store then I gentle close the door without letting it close or latch all the way. That seems to stop the chime while I'm pumping gas.

As for leaving the engine running and locking the door to go inside I'm pretty sure it can be done but I haven't invested the time to learn how yet. I know on an old aftermarket remote start I had let me activate the remote start even though it was already running and then it took over from there letting me remove the key and leave/lock the vehicle.

I have left the Ram running and locked it using the door button or fob button while I went back inside to grab some stuff. It will work but it will keep chiming that the fob has left the vehicle.

Yup, this is exactly it. I have also done it this way.

Be careful leaving it running, though. Just last week, somebody did this and the car was stolen. Apparently, the lady was still in close enough proximity that the doors would still unlock at the handle. A guy jumped in her car and took off.

Ha! Did this the first time with the DW and some in the truck. Ran into the 7-11 quickly to get a drink and pee. Came back several minutes later and the DW was a bit miffed. Lesson learned.

Yep I learned you can drive away quite a ways without the fob in it. My dad dropped me off one day and had my RAM. I forgot to give him the key and he drove off and got about a mile down the road and called asking why my truck keeps dinging and saying no fob is in the vehicle.

He came back and I had to give him the fob. I didn't realize the truck would still drive that far with no fob...

Wow, no kidding. That doesn't make me very comfortable about the overall security of my $55,000 truck. The damn thing should be shutting down the moment the fob is a few feet out of range.

It's for safety... and what if your FOB Battery dies while your driving? Now your stuck in the middle of the interstate, until you can figure out how to use the key. And not to mention your truck just died going 70mph,

Safety? The vehicle shouldn't go anymore then 10 feet. Shouldn't be a big concern there. Besides, no different then having any other mechanical failure at highway speeds, happens all the time.

Address your concerns then to whomever. It may be a law. I have had multiple cars that do the same exact thing. It is literally no different than having a key, just it is a convenience. If you leave your car with the key in the ignition (ignition on) they can still steal it. Complete shutdown and loss of power steering, power brakes, ect. is not something manufacturers want to deal with. That is a lawsuit and car accident waiting to happen.

This feature has also never been advertised as a theft deterrent or anything of the such.

If you live in an area where someone has the balls to steal your car 5 feet in front of you (close enough to unlock your doors with your fob in your pocket). Well then your problems extend further than this.

Better yet, the electronic shifter shouldn't even go into drive without the fob present. It already does this anyway when it's in remote start mode. The vehicle doesn't have to completely shutdown immediately either, it can first go into reduced power mode then shut down, they already do this too. If I leave my car running with a regular key in the ignition then I deserve to have it stolen, regardless of where I live, but it's the 21st ******* century DB.

For those that don't already know and somewhat related....... I was concerned about the fob battery going dead and not being able to start the truck and/or losing the fob.

I took the key out of the fob and took it to Ace and had a key made that I can keep in my billfold since the key in the fob has the big end that's too bulky for a billfold. I then took the battery out of my spare fob (so I can still lock the truck) and placed it and the fob in a zip lock in a hidden place in the cab. This way if I loose the fob I can still open the door with my key and the spare fob even without the battery installed will still start the truck when the end of it (not key end) is pressed against the start button.

I'm confused why you even still have the spare fob in the truck then...

The fob will still start the truck with no battery when you press the end against the start button or in the cubby underneath the A/C controls. There's a fob shaped depression under the rubber mat that you can stick the fob into.

As you said, you can use the key to get into the truck by taking it out of the fob and manually unlocking the doors. I guess I don't get why you have the spare fob hidden in the truck.
