Redline 5W-30 and a Royal Purple 20-820 filter if you can find them. If you're running 5W-20 switch over to 5W-30,even Ma Mopar says 5W-30 is okay,read the note at the bottom.
Like everything these days it's a bit of a lottery, really doesn't matter what manufacturer you get it seems. That being said I've had 4 rams now over 17 years, all with the 5.7l and never had an internal issue with any of the engines. By far the most reliable engine I've owned to date considering I have friends with different manufacturers blowing timing chains and other -major- failures at what I would consider very low mileages (under 60k). I would avoid telling the dealer you tried a heavier weight oil as that could be grounds for denying a warranty claim. If it makes you feel better I've got a 2019 5th gen with over 120k and other than the standard exhaust manifold tick the engine is running perfectly (knock on wood just cause...) and I have several friends with 4th gens and over 200k with no issues. We also regularly see -40 and colder temps (no I don't count windchill, that is the actual avg temp in winter) in winter which really stresses oil limits especially around cams\lifters and bearing faces and none of us have failed cams\lifters so going OEM replacement under warranty doesn't mean you'll see the same issue again.
