I have a bad knocking sound coming from the front passenger side of my truck. At first I thought it was an exhaust hanger, but I got under the truck and nothing was loose. No hanger, heat shield, or anything like that was loose. It happens when I hit bumps with the right side tires, or when I am turning to the right when all the weight is transferred to the left side. It sounds like two pieces of solid metal knocking against each other. I can shake the truck on above the wheel and hear it without the wheels even having to rotate, so it sounds to me like it's in the linkage for the steering or suspension or something like that.

I took it to the dealer and they lifted it off the ground and couldn't find anything wrong with it, but they didn't even pull a wheel off to check things. Anyone had any encounters of their own like this, or know what it could possibly be?

All stock. I even had the stock style and tire size put on it when it came time for new tires.

If your truck is a 4x4 I would say that it sounds like the front axles need to be replaced. If its a 2wd, then I have no idea.

It's 4x4. I probably should have put that as part of the post or in my sig, lol. I've talked to some mechanics around me and figured that it is possibly the sway bar, or some kind of linkage.

Had the truck to the dealer again yesterday and they finally think they know what's going on. They think it's the front right strut going bad and the truck only has 35k miles on it. They ordered a new strut so that they can replace it and see if that fixes it, but, correct me if I'm wrong, won't the tires wear working now and it drive a little weird with one new strut and one worn strut?

I am keeping an eye on this thread, I seem to have a similar problem. I haven't been able to place it exactly.
It is very pronounced when I go over bumps, or when I turn left and the passenger wheel drops next to the pavement.
Quite a loud metal on metal sound coming from the passenger side front suspension.

That sounds like what I have, but mine does it when I turn to the right and the weight shifts off of the passenger side. Does your have a shake, or real bad vibration at 55mph or higher?

Hey guys, mine is in the shop right now and they think it is a strut as well. Its a 2013 dodge ram sport, 5.7 hemi. I just had my odd tiny can sound fixed underneath that apparantly is a known issue with dodge, its some clip touching the bracket for the exhaust. And when I was driving home i heard a knocking sound and took the truck right back to dodge and they they are changing it and testing it again. They have awesome staff there, Adam and Terry are great...and i only have 8500 km on it

I am having the same issues with this I have been dealing with it in and out of the shop for about 3 mths or so now. They cannot seem to find it they have changed the rack steering box and tie rod ends and still the same noise persist. I have been looking and looking they are trying to say it is my running boards as they are aftermarket AMP research boards but not only does it do it mostly while turning when I get into the seat with vehicle off and shake you can hear it in the floor board. I would love to know what it is I think it may be something in the suspension (keep in mind mine is completely stock) because it does it more when turning right but still does it mostly turning either way and every now and then while slowing down going straight. I have a Star Case opened with Chrysler as well and I have not gotten anywhere with it.
