My buddy wants to know what gears came on his truck where can we find that?

If its new he'll still have a sticker on the rear axle. If not, I would enter his VIN in to an online MOPAR VIN checker which will produce a "window sticker" of how the truck was optioned from the factory including which gears it has.
He could also take it to a dealership and ask them to check using his VIN.
