Recently bought a 2005 Ram 1500 with a 4” lift and 285/75-17 tires on factory steel wheels

The truck is missing the spare tire lift mechanism for under the bed.

Can anyone confirm if larger tire such as mine will fit in the stock spare tire location? If so, I’m going to purchase the spare tire lift assembly.

I would suggest measuring the space as I'm not absolutely sure about a 2005. I have a 2014 with 35" on 20s. A comparable spare will not fit due to the receiver and I can't not have that receiver. Otherwise, I could probably make it happen. It's also possible the exhaust might need to be redirected and heat shield removed. If I recall correctly, I was within an inch or less from being able to make it work. Might be able to pull it off with no adjustments with 17s.

The biggest factory spare stuffed up there is a 275/60R20. Compare.

Not exactly what you're asking for but here's how I handle the spare tire for the 2013 RAM 1500 Tradesman. I live in the Northern Adirondacks which is a high salt environment. If I mounted it under the truck the rim would turn rusted in no time. I'm assuming others do and don't have any overall problem with the tire rusted or not. But I keep it in the truck bed at all times. Six and a half foot truck bed. The solid fold tonneau cover keeps it out of the elements and protects from theft. I think I only had to remove the tire from the bed one or two times to make enough space for cargo.
