Sorry if this has already been answered, but I was unable to find this question about my specific year of truck. My truck comes with LT285-70-17R tires and the spare is only LT265-70-17R. So my spare is about 1.1inches smaller in diameter. I am no mechanic but when I looked under my truck, it looks like it could easily handle a full size spare tire.

Right now Canadian Tire has a really good sale on their motomaster eliminator xtrails AT tires so I have decided to by them to replace my 8 year old stock tires. I'm tempted to buy 5 tires to have a full size spare. Can anyone with a 2016 Ram rebel confirm that I can fit a full size spare? If the spares rim is not the right width I'd be willing to buy a new rim as long as it would fit under the truck. It seems odd to me to have a slightly smaller spare instead of a full size one. I understand they saved a few bucks, per ram sold but i'd feel better knowing that if I have to put on my spare, especially in the winter... I could still go into 4x4 and not damage my truck.

Also my spare is over 8 years old so I should replace it either way.
Thanks

Yes, you can stuff a new full size spare in there.
You may have to finagle it a bit... but it'll fit (edit...depending on the size of the spare, mind you ;)).

However, as many here may do (I know that I do), you could go to a LT tire in Load Range E (10-ply) or lower to an 8-ply, and remove the spare altogether.

I'm in Ontario, Canada, and TBH, even though my truck is practically brand new, I still have CAA Platinum, just in case.

I don't have a spare as I switch from 20" LT's (35's) in the summer with 10-ply, to 17" in the winter. Having a spare is honestly of zero use to me.

If I do experience a flat... CAA to the rescue ;)

I'm also ridiculously A.._n- A..-L.. (can you believe I had to go this route to say this...lol) about my tires and monitor & adjust tire pressures at a minimum of monthly, rotate regularly, and keep vigilant on where & how I drive.

Not that this fully absolves me of potential catastrophic failures. But it sure as heck keeps me on the plus side of the curve to the point that I am fully conscious if I start losing pressure, and then how to mitigate the aftermath ;)

I'm in a very rural area, so I just can't chance it even though it is tempting to take it off and save the weight. I'm buying LT tires and they are 10 ply. Thanks for the response!
